Hillhouse has sweeping views of Midmar dam and the idyllic Midlands countryside. Situated in the heart of the KZN Midlands on a farm within the Dargle Valley Conservancy, just 8 kms from the N3. We offer a wonderful country escape, the entire house is yours, and you will love the open space and light from the large glass entrances on either end of the building. There are beautiful walks on the farm in the forests where you will see many species of buck, birds and other wildlife. If you are a big group of family and friends, you can book both Lakehouse and Hillhouse. They are guesthouses on the same farm, 150m apart. Fine cotton bed linen and bath towels are provided. If you would like the house to be serviced, a staff member can come in and tidy up in the morning. You can pay her directly. There is ample parking for a couple of vehicles. We have a lovely childrens play area below Hillhouse with a trampoline, swing and jungle gym. There is also a swimming pool at our private home which you are welcome to use. It is 20 meters from Hillhouse and please be aware it is unfenced. Unfortunately we have noise restrictions and are not able to have parties and weddings.

My husband and myself have lived on the farm for 34 years and love sharing our beautiful home with our guests. We have planted thousands of indigenous trees and have created orchards and gardens around the guest houses for you to enjoy. I'm always happy to interact with guests, and will gladly assist you and answer any questions. After welcoming you and making sure you feel at home, I will then leave you to enjoy your stay but will be on call should you need me.

The surrounding area is farmland. We have beautiful views of Midmar dam and the valley below. Our farm is 3 kms from Midmar Dam where one can fish, sail and water ski. Midmar Mile swimmers and other sporting visitors will find this an ideally convenient location. We are also well situated to access many of the Midlands schools. We are in the hub of the KZN Midlands where there are world class restaurants, wonderful scenic roads, hiking, biking, art museums and other great places to discover. Visit the monument at the Mandela capture site, Visit The Old Mushroom Farm in the Karkloof, The Karkloof Farmers Market is open every Saturday, on the Karkloof road. Great for fresh locally made and grown food. Horse Riding with Karkloof Horse Adventures. Enjoy the beautiful Midlands countryside on horseback. Mountain biking - ride the best single track in SA from the Karkloof Country Club. The Karkloof Canopy Tours for zip lines in the trees Birders will enjoy the beautiful birds seen right here on the farm La Petite France (Karkloof) cheese. Buy directly from their farm shops. We highly recommend a walk in Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve. It is a hidden gem. Karkloof has a number of waterfalls, 2 of them being Karkloof Falls and Grey Mare’s Tail, which are Karkloof’s best kept secret. Howick Falls, seen from Howick is also spectacular. Treat yourself at Brookdale health hydro or Fordoun Spa Boschhoek golf club in Nottingham Road and Sakabula Golf course nearer to us. Wine tasting at Abingdon Wine Estate Groundcover in the Curry’s Post for beautifully crafted leather shoes and bags. Beer tasting and locally crafted Beer at Lions River Craft Brewery and Nottingham Road Brewing Company. Piggly Wiggly is close by and offer a lot for children including Mini Steam Train for rides on weekends and holidays. Our favorite restaurants: The Treatery (Howick), La Lampara (Balgowen) and Caversham Mill.
