Absolutely loved this magical place. Nice and quiet getaway, falling asleep with only the sound of the river. So much attention for details by the sweetest couple who run the place. Amazing view. Nice walk at the property along. the town close by felt very safe. We used this spot to travel to Drakensberg park, so after a day of hiking this was the perfect place to relax. One of our favorite spots in South Africa!

What to do and where to go Otters Den runs alongside the Lions River providing beautiful views as well as the opportunity for gentle riverside walks or swimming in the crystal-clear river pools. Enjoy the different bird and wildlife all around us, on clear nights an abundance of bright stars. We are situated on the renowned Midlands Meander arts and crafts route, offering various local products and produce. You could also bring your bikes and ride in the scenic countryside. The local area abounds with things to see and do including trout and bass fishing, golfing within a 10 minute drive and the annual Midmar Mile at Midmar Dam. The historic battlefields route can be found approximately 1 hour drive away and the well-known world heritage site of the Drakensberg Mountain range is also about 1 hours drive away. Eating and drinking locally There are numerous restaurants within 15 minutes drive including The Bierfassl and Crystal Barn. The home of the Midlands local brewery is situated in Nottingham Road at Rawdons Hotel.

Welcome to Otters Den Self Catering, our secluded cottages set in 18 acres of unspoilt countryside in the heart of the arts and crafts route of the Midlands Meander. Built in 2004, these well-equipped cottages - including FREE Wi-Fi and DSTV in each cottage, overlook the Lions River near Nottingham Road in Kwazulu Natal, offering a truly peaceful, cosy and relaxing break away into the clean countryside air. We look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of heaven and hope you enjoy your stay.

Neighbourhood information

Our Location We are located 13km out of Nottingham Road village, on the Fort Nottingham Road in the heart of the Midlands Meander arts and crafts route. Only 50km from Howick which is famous for the Howick Falls, 70km from Pietermaritzburg a historic city and 1 ½ hours from Durban International Airport. We are also 450km from Johannesburg.
