In 1981 Gerard and Jill Marais purchased a run-down house on a very large property in Rivonia. They loved the huge rambling garden, as they had both grown up in small South African towns surrounded by wide-open spaces. At the time they bought the property there were still horses stabled at the end of the road. They never dreamed that one day they'd create a 'garden estate' with 44 B&B rooms and, in so doing, have the adventure of their lives. The idea of a B&B came to them in 1995 when the Rugby World Cup, to be held in South Africa, was imminent. They redecorated 2 rooms which they weren’t using at the time in anticipation of the many overseas visitors that would stream into the country. However, the stream of overseas rugby fans didn't materialize as Gerard and Jill had hardly any experience in hospitality marketing. In 1997 the couple decided to close down their manufacturing business and slowly they began to expand the B&B. They grew their ‘baby’ and now Rivonia Premier Lodge (as it is now named) consists of 44 rooms, a Business Center and a wonderful staff of 20. Gerard and Jill love what they do. Daily they meet the most interesting people from all over the world. Many of their guests have become firm friends over the years. The Marais' goal has been to create a green oasis in the middle of busy Sandton. They have aimed to create a haven, where visitors can experience a warm welcome and relax in the tranquil surrounds. In this they have succeeded!

If you are a travelling on business or for leisure, long stay or short, we offer a great alternative to an hotel. Our treed, rambling gardens, with their expansive lawns and private nooks, are a great favorite with guests. At our lodge you will find true country-living in the heart of Sandton. All our rooms have their own private entrances and spacious patios on which to sip sun-downers on a warm summer's evening. Our family units ( 2 inter-leading rooms) have proved to be popular with persons travelling with children or friends. The continental & cooked-to-order breakfasts by our sparkling pool are legendary. Meet our friendly staff who are are renowned for their warmth and their willingness to go the extra mile. To suit all budgets, we have a range of price points depending on room type. All rooms have a microwave, fridge, honesty bar and tea/coffee making facilities. Each room has under-floor heating and the Luxury, Superior and most Standard rooms have air-conditioners. Rooms are serviced daily. Our well equipped Business Centre accommodates 22 pax. and is suitable for training, business meetings and more. Security within our boomed Rivonia Valley Estate is our top priority

Neighborhood info

Rivonia, where people used to own plots and keep horses, is now a booming area with luxury homes and apartments,. The area has managed to maintain its rural feel despite rapid development. A few blocks up from Rivonia Premier Lodge is Rivonia Primary School, which is the oldest public school in Joburg. Opposite the school's playing fields is Bookdealers on the corner of 12th Street and Wessel Rd. Justin, the owner, has an excellent selection of second-hand books, Next door to Bookdealers is a delightful café serving the most delectable pastries. The main retail thoroughfare in the area, Rivonia Boulevard, accommodates the Rivonia Square and Rivonia Village shopping complexes with their banks, hairdressers, spas, restaurants and numerous coffee shops. Highly recommended is Zara’s Cafe, a bright and welcoming cafe in Rivonia. They have a full breakfast and lunch menu and also serve delicious cakes and other sweet treats. Aldeia Restaurant is well-known for its outstanding Portuguese menu. The service is personal and Taste of India has a great ambiance, friendly staff and most important the taste which give you feeling that you in are India itself.. . You can experience the world's cuisine from Persian to Italian within the Rivonia surrounds. Nearby you will find river walks, shopping malls, cinemas. Rivonia is a 5 min. drive to Netcare Sunninghill Hospital Hospital
