Company info

We stumbled upon Schoone Oordt whilst searching for a farm in the area. We also stumbled upon the fact that we were pregnant, which was quite fortuitous, considering that we wanted to raise children in the country. It was simply love at first sight with both baby and the house and so begins a loooong story spanning many years (many more than anticipated).

Property info

We bought the property in 2003, it was a family home, not our family home, but a family home. We spent 4 years completely restoring the Manor House, building the rooms (which are separate and private) and landscaping the gardens. We didn't have a huge amount of money, so did the majority of the work ourselves. We then spent another 5 years onsite building up the business and growing our family. Eventually moving offsite to take care of our children for 9 years. 2020 being 2020, we moved back to live onsite and manage our oldest 'baby' ourselves again. Staying with us is an authentic South African Hospitality experience and we hope guests feel as though they are staying with the best of friends.

Neighborhood info

The Swellendam area offers guests an abundance of activities. Hiking, horse-trails, bike-trails, trail-runs, watersports as well as visits to the nearby Nature Reserves are a must. A trip to the De Hoop Nature Reserve for seasonal whale watching cannot be missed, a short journey over the Tradouw’s Pass for milkshakes in Barrydale as well as a day trip wine-tasting in the Robertson Wine Valley. Along with a nine-hole golf course, quaint coffee shops, the renowned Drostdy museum, berry & lavender-picking, great restaurants and a feast of art, Swellendam spoils its visitors for choice.
