A beautiful region, with excellent restaurants. The Grootrivier and (Western Cape part of) the Bloukrans River passes are exceptional, as is Nature's Valley.
The Birds of Eden is THE world leading bird conservancy -- the biggest anywhere with free flying birds in a magnificent forest with a beautiful kloof, waterfall ,,, The nearby Monkeyland and Jukani conservancies are also probably the best in Africa.
Thyme & Again restaurant is also a favourite.

This is definitely not a family holiday spot!
This is definitely not a family holiday spot! It could, at best, be a backpackers lodge. The water in the bathrooms was brownish, and although there were assurances that it was healthy, we were sceptical. The rooms were tiny and barely furnished. The kitchen is communal and almost 100 meters away from the rooms - very inconvenient for those rainy days! What about the toilet and bathroom outside the rooms! We had surely booked the wrong place, and stayed only for one night out of four.

Its a wonderful place to stay, especially since it is 18kms from Plettenberg Bay, so its more serene than Plett over the height of summer. There is a lot to do in the vicinity. We loved our visits to the elephant sanctuary (an absolute must-do), the wolf sanctuary, Birds of Eden, Tenikwa (wildlife rehabilitation), Jukani (wildlife sanctuary, especially for Big Cats) and Monkeyland. There's a super water park (Adventureland) about 19kms away, with fabulous waterslides.
We made the mistake of not booking restaurants for dinner in advance. Over late December / early January most places were fully booked, which really limited our options and we spent a lot of time calling around, which we could have avoided. I would scout the restaurants and book well in advance next time.

Animal sanctuaries are awesome and accommodation peaceful...
Animal sanctuaries are awesome and accommodation peaceful with beautiful views but restuarants are very limited especially durin the month of May when they shut down. If I did it again I would probably either pack food or stay in Plettenburg bay and travel through to the Crags for a day visit to the sanctuaries.
A little slice of heaven is how I'd describe Tamodi. People from big cities sometimes just want to get away from it all and just relax, this is a great place for that. The view is breathtaking and waking up to that every morning is beyond amazing. The chalet I was in was huge with modern amenities and it was just picture perfect. Everything you could ever need was available including a wine cellar! The beach is a short drive away and there are good restaurants nearby. Lynne and Owen were great hosts and their staff are very friendly!
We found everything we might need in the cottage like plates, pots, pans, pillows, blankets, etc. The cottage itself is a modest place with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a nice view, a parking space in the garage. The hosts are such a friendly and lovely couple.
The host made us very delicious breakfast and brought it early as we asked the previous night.
We enjoyed our stay a lot, it definitely was a good value for money, quite close to Nature's Valley. There's also a supermarket nearby.
This is a very special place, a truly unique experience! It is an Eco Lodge so you're off the grid, it's not a hotel so the rooms are light and not soundproofed. But all the comforts are there, amazing bed and soft bedding with great pillows, it is warm and welcoming, the entire place and the rooms had so much character, the breakfast was absolutely incredible - best we've had in a long while. The value for money amazing. They really go out of their way!
This was a magical place to spend time on our South Africa vacation. The Villa is outstanding with the lovely rooms, resident animals/friends who gave us lots of cuddles, fabulous food and the host are very caring. I felt like I was wrapped in a warm blanket of care. Scrumptious breakfasts and phenomenal dinners. I cannot recommend this place enough! Luckily we spent three nights here but would have loved to spend even more time.
We made our own breakfasts. The hosts were very kind and helpful. The location is very close to the world-leading Birds of Eden, and equally close to the excellent Monkeyland. Conveniently close to the beautiful Nature's Valley, the magnificent Grootrivier Pass and the equally magnificent Western Cape portion of the Bloukrans River Pass. And not too far from Big Animal conservancy Jukani.
Gert-Jan is a super host, very kind and friendly! The B&B is indeed very colourful and cosy! You have everything you need to cook a very nice breakfast and wine and beers are also available to purchase if you want. Bear in mind there aren't restaurants near by. The place is lovely and conveniently close to the animal sanctuaries "birds of Eden" and "Monkey Island".
Cute cottage on a dairy farm, you are in the middle of nature, well equipped, a fresh bottle of milk in the fridge, you can go to the nearby farmstall to buy groceries or to eat breakfast/ lunch there (make sure that you try the milktart), friendly staff and easy communciation with the host, nice hiking recommendations for the area, we had a pleasant stay
This was our favorite of the places we stayed in South Africa, and we hope to go back some day. The proprietors are warm, welcoming, and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful, but you should definitely plan to eat dinner here during your stay- they were some of the best of the trip.
Everything was perfect, this was the most special place we stayed at in South Africa. The location is magical, rooms are clean and big, food was great (breakfast and dinner) and beyond all the staff was kind and generous unlike any other place. This is a must for couples.
Gorgeous boutique hotel a short drive from Plettenberg. The staff is incredibly kind and thinks of everything. The food is fantastic. Amazing views from anywhere on the property. We did not want to leave!
Beautiful setting over the tree canopy. Lovely cosy open plan room. Quiet space in nature. Great location in close proximity to the wildlife parks and short drive to Plettenberg Bay and the beaches.
An unbelievable place that really puts you in the middle of the forest and the nature! The staff was very welcoming and the whole hotel and spa buildings are just a beautiful work of art.
Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful and romantic. Love the boutique size of the hotel and attention to detail from the wonderful staff! They made us feel extra special!
