Set between the luscious sugarcane familiar to the North Coast, and the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, lays Prince’s Grant Coastal Golf Estate- the epitome of Modern-day elegance and beauty. A hidden gem on the North Coast, this estate is home to the avid golfer and playground to young families looking for refuge from the busyness of the city. In October 1856, George Wilson Prince acquired the piece of land on which Prince’s Grant is built by means of a Deed of Grant issued by the Lieutenant Governor of Natal. In order to retain an association between the property’s history and the present-day estate, the developers decided to use the name Prince’s Grant. Soon after this, the farm was acquired by Babu Bodasing, an indentured cane cutter from India. The land remained in the hands of the Bodasing family until it was sold to Prince’s Grant Property Share Block Limited by Mr Raj Bodasing. The latter is still a shareholder and property owner at Prince’s Grant. Guy Smith, founder of Prince’s Grant Coastal Golf Estate, had a dream to build a golf course. Through sheer perseverance, this dream became a reality, and in November 1994, Prince’s Grant was officially opened. The estate has flourished into one of class and beauty, with roaming buck, magnificent bird life and boasts a world class par-72 18-hole championship Golf Course designed by local and distinguished architect, Peter Matkovich, which is currently ranked the 33rd best course in the country. Prince’s Grant has, over the last 25 years, developed into a self-sufficient estate, with boreholes providing the residents with a constant water supply, telecom towers ensuring that phones and internet are available to all, and generators around common areas means that work continues despite the Load Shedding we’ve become so accustomed to!
