Offering rooms with impeccable rustic style décor and garden views, this inn just 30 km off Machu Picchu, features red-tiled terraced Spanish galleries and views of the surrounding scenery. Staying at El Albergue Ollantaytambo was genuinely one of the best decisions we made on the trip, hands down. First off, the location is perfect. Ollantaytambo itself is a fascinating town with a history to match—it’s the only one still using the Inca grid system! Plus, it offers two great, fun treks: the ruins and the granaries. But the real boon is its position right AT the station, making it the ultimate base for Machu Picchu. Getting up a couple of hours earlier than everyone else for the trek is great, but there's nothing better than coming back and immediately checking in instead of having to deal with another grueling 2-4 hour bus ride back to Cusco. It's also much more comfortable being at 9,500 ft instead of the 11,500 ft elevation of Cusco. Beyond the incredible convenience, El Albergue is simply an exceptional hotel in its own right. The service is beyond reproach; everyone on the property was so incredibly friendly and attentive. It truly makes the entire experience. The rooms are impeccably designed and wonderfully comfortable. I have to specifically shout out the gorgeous art throughout the rooms and common areas—it’s stunning, and seemingly much of it is from the proprietor, Wendy Weeks. The on-site amenities are another huge plus. The restaurant has exceptional food, and breakfast starts early (6 a.m.) with a great variety. You absolutely MUST book the wonderful Pachamanca lunch beforehand. They also have a local coffee roastery and a distillery right there; we had a great tour at both and really enjoyed the products, especially the Matacuy. Oh, and there are the most adorable dogs on the property, too! Overall, El Albergue was one of our favorite stays in Peru. We had a great time and are genuinely looking forward to coming back.

In a renovated XVIII century colonial-style inn, Corihuasi features rooftop views of Cusco historic centre, just 2 blocks from the city’s main square. Wi-Fi is free. Great location, super friendly and efficient staff, wonderful breakfast.

Amaru Colonial is a colonial inn in the artistic SanBlas district, 2 blocks from San Blas square. The charming central courtyard features soft lighting and a colorful flower garden. Quiet location close to Plaza de Armas, clean & comfortable rooms, friendly staff and good breakfast. On a previous one night stay, I had posted about not being able to get change for taxi. The hotel approached me on my return stay to explain the reasons and to offer something in return. I appreciated the hotel’s efforts to explain and remedy, and although I did not take up the offer, it shows a very good attitude.

In Cusco´s San Blas art district, Amaru Inca is set in a colonial house with internal patio and garden, featuring scenic views. It has character, it is one of the cleanest i have ever been, the room had enough space for the suitcases, and it is situated at the heart of the city. Also, every single one person of the staff is lovely, friendly, happy to help at all times, and super polite. Especially señora Epifania was the sweetest! Highly recommended!

Set in Checacupe, 26 km from Inca temple complex of Ollantaytambo, Casona Checacupe offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. In this very small village we found this beautiful property for a one night stop on our way to Arequipa. It is great and peaceful. The host is very nice and we had a super dinner and breakfast! Night is cold, but we got a little heater which was very nice!

Located in Urubamba, within 300 metres of Main Square and 300 metres of Saint Peter Church, Hospedaje La Florida provides accommodation with a garden and free WiFi throughout the property as well as... Lovely Colonial two story building around a beautiful garden. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful.

Featuring free breakfast, Casa de La Chola offers accommodations in Ollantaytambo. Each room here is equipped with heating and a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Extras include bed linen. Tony was an amazing host. The room was absolutely clean and beautiful. I would return!

Situated on the foothills of Pinkuylluna, a sacred Inca mountain, Apu Lodge features cosy regional decor with exposed stones and colourful tapestries. Great location and staff is exceptional and friendly. Really enjoyed the breakfast!

Cosy rooms with free Wi-Fi can be enjoyed at Picol Hostal, awarded with the Gold's Q'ente 2015 for Touristic Quality Services. Clean, well managed, convenient, friendly staff. Set breakfast, very good coffee. WiFi worked. Hot shower water. Short walk to the Inca Rail departure point.
