Tembo Beach Cottage is a 15 minute drive from the airport, but not really walking distance from central Malindi. The cottage is part of a larger 'resort' with about 8-10 similar cottages around the pool and more short-term stays owned by locals or foreigners nearby. The area is secluded from the public with a manned gate and staff guarding the beach entrance. There larger complex area appears to be for events such as weddings, etc. Checkin was fairly straightforward, showing up at the gate, signing in, and telling the guards my room number and host name. The cottage itself was wonderful, clean, and comfortable. The shower was a little finicky with the hot water but I figured it out. The WiFi was fast and there is an internet TV. Besides the pool, the best part is the front, covered patio area perfect for breakfast or reading! Considered a beachfront property, it take about five minutes to walk through the compound and across the wide, public beach to the water. Get up early for a beautiful sunrise!

Amazing breakfast - lots of choice and plentiful portion. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked well. There was a TV in the common area with Youtube and netflix, which was great when it rained. The pool was a little smaller than I expected but a perfect temperature. The staff were very helpful and friendly, quick to offer services.

The place is very nice. With pools, trees, flowers, quiet because not in the center and directly at the beach. A Tuk Tuk to the town center costed about 2 USD, so not a big deal.
