United StatesRivage is a brand-new resort in the Shigar region of Skardu. It joins a couple of high-end properties in an area that will likely be the future of Skardu-region tourism. Upon arrival, we were greeted with the traditional organic apricot juice. The rooms, especially the suites, are very comfortable and have a view to die for. I saw Ralph Lauren pillows on the bed which was a bit of a shock (in a good way) in such a remote area of the world! The beds were very nice. There is local wood used throughout the property which has a real focus on sustainability.
We had both the presidential and panoramic suites and they were both excellent. The presidential suite is a bit more cozy but the panoramic suite will bring a smile to your face when you wake up in the morning.
The staff is incredibly helpful and accommodating. Much of that has to do with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan who are just the nicest folk. There is no crime in this region at all and foreigners are welcomed with open arms. This area has access to Deosai Plains as well as local attractions like Upper Kachura, Shoq Valley, and Khamosh Falls. It's just a beautiful land with beautiful people.
