We loved everything about our stay here! The location is very peaceful, the Japanese style room was very prettily decorated and spacious, and the Miyako and her husband were fabulous hosts. They were so friendly and helpful, and made us feel very well cared for. Miyako prepared delicious and generous meals for us that were absolutely beautiful. She was also a huge help with arranging luggage transfer for us as we began our planned hike along the Michinoku trail. And she and her husband offered to drive us to and from Hachinohe station at a very reasonable rate, which is a big help and big time saver because Hachinohe is very spread out.

Guests at Hayamakan can enjoy traditional multi-course meals and relax in the indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths. Im very impressed. The staff provided excellent service. Highly recommended!

The beautifully timbered ryokan is hundreds of years old and has been in the host Toki’s family for 11 generations. Generously sized rooms in traditional style, all spotlessly clean, the timber floors so polished you can almost see your reflection. Toki is a genial and charming host with readily offered information useful to our stay. His wife Uki is the chef. Much has been written about the quality of the meals already, but that doesn’t quite prepare you for the creativity and care poured into every one of her dishes. Even after many visits to ryokan cuisine over the years, Uki’s dishes stand as some of the best of them all. She modestly explains each dish for you, and the offerings were different each night. No overstatement to say she is a master of her craft. Overall a wonderfully warm, welcoming and delicious stay at Tamonkan.

What a gem!!! 💎 This place deserves a visit even if you don't have any business in the area! It was spotless clean, all the necessary amenities were there, the internet was fast, the kitchen was very convenient, the welcoming common room, a cozy bed, with fluffy covers... all simply perfect! The bath is also huge, so even though it's not an onsen, you can feel like at one. There is a really nice park 5 mins away, so don't miss to visit it. And a cherry on the top if the cake: the owner is super nice, very helpful, just a kind of a person that you like to meet during your journey. Him and his wife invited me for a tea ceremony at their home, and we made soba noodles together and so much more! As a foreigner, I was delighted to get to know some real Japan in a very authentic way - and I am telling this as a person who visited Japan more than 3 times now! Absolutely the best, if you're thinking of booking - do it, you won't regret it!
