Our stay at Fuki Juku was undeniably a highlight of our trip to Japan! The charming hosts picked us up at the Hashimoto Train Station and drove the 30 minutes to their guesthouse, with a stop at a beautiful view for pictures. The pick up and drop off is included in their rate. We were fortunate in that our family of four were the only guests that night and we had the whole floor to ourselves. At 6:30pm the most amazing dinner was ready and presented artistically with a touch of folk art and nostalgia to create a memorable atmosphere. After dinner we had fireworks (sparklers) and then walked through the peaceful village. Breakfast was equally delightful and then they brought us to Koya for photos and dropped us off at the information centre in Koyasan. The service and hospitality was above and beyond and was a wonderful way to get started on our Kohechi Trail in Kumano Kodo!! This was a truly unique Japanese experience away from the tourist areas. We highly recommend it!

The temple was peaceful and welcoming, and the vegetarian meals were excellent. Teo, one of the monks who speaks English, explained the morning ceremony, the food, and shared fascinating history about the temple and Buddhism. It made the experience truly special. Highly recommended!
