Must-go place, highly recommended! Treat yourself well, buying a seat ticket. Doesn't matter with or without the view to stage, the sound effects are excellent. I bought a €26 ticket and seat at 3rd floor in the corner behind the stage, still sound excellent. Just go and you won't regret it.
It could have been a Brilliant "Mozart Music" Concert...IF we weren't herded in like sheep !!! and if there was not a "Disney" quality to the costumes. Our musical experience was ruined by the overcrowded hall and gallery boxes. The audience was 25% more than what any of the seating space could accommodate. I would NOT recommend this concert venue to anyone. The smaller venues and churches offer a better music experience. Our advice to Musikverein - reduce your audience by 25%, increase ticket process if you need to cover costs...…...and do away with the Cheezy costumes for the Orchestra.
The music show during August reflects Austrians' total contempt for foreigners. They played a series of short tacky pieces, and ended with a piece that encouraged the audience to clap along. Shocking waste of time and money.
We went to the Musikveiren for the Mozart concert. The room is spectacular. The concert was OK. It's focussed on tourists, as to be expected. Many of the other tourists demonstrated less than expected behaviour for the situation - nonstop photography and videoing on mobile phones despite repeated warnings, talking, moving between pieces, snoring as examples. Much of Mozart is not popular classical music but the well known pieces are played. Thanfully they played Blue Dabube at the end. There is some opera interspersed. Good to see but not essential.
Enjoyed the experience very much despite it being very touristy and filled with tour groups. Westerners were very much in the minority and a lot of selfies were taken before the concert. The staff were clued up to their clients and did announce about no photos in the performance, which was generally adhered to. Some people did talk though, which was a shame. If you know even the slightest whisper will annoy you, you might be better giving this a miss. The performances were first class however.
You are almost always going to hear great music played brilliantly there, but the seats we had in the Grossersaal in the balcony directly in front of the orchestra were designed for much shorter peple than us.
