We stayed at the Sofitel Hotel in Circular Quay and had amazing views of the Quay. In the daytime we would have a very pleasant walk around the Quay and along the coastline which led us to Sydney harbour, where we could easily hop onto a boat to visit other places like Manly beach. A must is the view from Circular Quay Railway station, its th best free view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Harbour and Opera House. Oh and the bridge the opera house and if you're lucky one of those massive cruise ships will be in. They are like floating cities, quite a sight. It’s a bit of walking. Especially if you are going to the opera house as well. So travel light. If you have small kids (or a tired Grandma) take one of those fold up beach trolleys ($75 from Kmart) those things are priceless when lugging kids and stuff around! Everything is a stone throw from the Quay view Opera House, walk over Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Botanical Gardens, Lady Macquarie's Chair visit the historical Rocks have a beer in the oldest pubs in Sydney a few claim to be. Macquarie Street is a walk up the road there is an amazing amount of history in this street, the first signs from penal colony to a colony, might be best during the week where you can access some of the buildings.
