Located directly beside the Alte Brücke bridge, this historic, 3-star-superior hotel in the Old Town district of Heidelberg offers classical-style rooms and views of the scenic Philosophers’ Way. The location was fantastic! We had a great view from our hotel room.
This 4-star hotel has a spectacular location on a hill directly overlooking Heidelberg Castle. It offers a panoramic terrace, free internet access and free on-site parking. The hotel is located next to the funicular station and has a lovely view.
This hotel in Heidelberg’s historic quarter has a beer garden overlooking the Alte Brücke Bridge. It is a 3-minute walk from Hauptstraße shopping street, and a 10-minute walk from Heidelberg Castle. Excellent location and a very clean room! The view was incredible and the staff was very friendly.
Worth going inside the inner courtyard to see the historic facades and the huge wine barrel- you can walk over it! Sadly the interior of the buildings could not be visited when we were there but they may be open at other times. If you don’t fancy the steep walk up to the castle from the old town, take the funicular- if you intend the go into the inner courtyard ( the outer parts are free) then the cost is the same whether you walk or take the funicular. You can also pay a bit more to go up the Königstuhl on the furnicular- there’s one stop after the castle stop where you change to the older historic funicular - dates back to 1907. On a clear day the views at the very top are amazing.
Visiting the castle is so much more than looking at beautiful ruins! Buy the ticket and take the trip up the mountain on the inclines to the very top! The views are incredible! We did this first and then proceeded back down to the castle! Second, spend the extra euros and take a guided tour of the inside of the castle! It was so worth it! An hour of history! Our guide was Christian. He was an anthropology major and shared great information! Afterwards, explore the castle area some more, check out the massive wine barrels and try out a glass of wine! Finish your tour with a walk back down to the old city! So much easier going downhill than up, but it is on cobblestone and rough on your ankles!
It was my third visit to Heldelberg. It shows the history and good combination with University and houses. Walking the castle in the morning gives us fresh air and nice scenary. Walking in the night shows nice view of the castle and totally different mood. ighly recommend this castle again.
It is just beautiful, be it at daytime or during night, be it from the Philosphenweg just opposite on the other hill or from the bridge. In nighttime it is illuminated in red. The view from the castle veranda down on the city is amazing.
The breakfast is typical of European hotels. There is a decent selection of breads and a few cheeses and deli meats as well as a scrambled or boiled eggs. The coffee machine offers cappuccino, espresso, and regular coffee. The convenience of having a quick breakfast before heading out to Heidelberg Castle or the market area is a plus.
Great location in the Altstadt, just a block from the Christkindlmarkt and a short walk to Heidelberg castle. The staff was very pleasant and the breakfast was very nice. The breakfast room was very cute.
