Lovely and amazing that a place of such natural beauty is part of the city! We walked up the back nr Holyrood and down the front along the road. It was extremely windy on the top, and we made the decision not to venture beyond the rock we were sheltering behind, be very aware that conditions at the top are different to the bottom and keep a good lookout for weather coming across. The next day the top was shrouded in low cloud. It was an easy enough walk wearing trainers with a little scramble on the last few metres of rock. There were lots of runners up there too.
Steep climb and loose stones on paths, but amazing views of the whole city, surroundings, Firth of Forth... If you don't want to climb to the top you can always settle for a more comfortable stroll around this fabulous gem of a mountain! The road goes all the way around, and provides lovely views too.
Take you time, go up slowly by the easiest, widest path. Then come back and go up the other two paths, for the view! It's a very short climb manageable with children and dogs and you just need to be careful and wear some wool and comfy shoes (trekking shoes are of course better but not really required)
Excellent hike, don't make the same mistake I did and go the steepest 'red' route unless you're good with heights! Routes from the other end of the climb were much nicer. Amazing views, a definite must see.
Beautiful campus, great lication close to Arthur’s Seat, Palace at Holyrood Park, and Roysl Mile. Very nice, quiet dorms. Friendly staff. Phenomenal breakfast, really good. Pub on site. All around perfect. Would love to come again.
We were in a beautiful part of Edinburgh and a very walkable distance to King Arthur’s Seat and the Nelson monument. Great breakfast at the No. 11 restaurant after our hike made for the perfect morning.
