Hotel in Balloch
OYO Lomond Park Hotel has a restaurant, bar, a shared lounge and garden in Balloch. Loved our comfortable room which also had a sofa for relaxing .
Park lovely, but castle closed falling into disrepair. Pity as it is a lovely building. Tea rooms and toilets at water edge closed. People with difficulties would not be able to make climb up path as too steep and a fair distance to toilet beside castle.
The best way to enter the park is via the footpath out of Balloch along the river Leven and enjoy the view of the river getting wider as it reaches Loch Lomand which is its source. Walk on along the Loch shore until you reach a slipway which you walk past and soon reach a path to the right which ascends to the top of the park. Turn right and walk until you reach the Castle, but on the way the view over Loch Lomand is magnificent.
The castle itself is under renovations and doesn't open to the public. However, you can walk around the outside and the grounds are beautifully maintained and big enough to have a nice walk for an hour or so from Balloch centre. You can get some good views of the Loch from the country park grounds.
