Take the boat from Bute Park, explore the Bay area then walk to Penarth over the barrage. (You can take a boat back to the Bay or walk on the Penarth station for a train (4 per hour) to Cardiff Central.
Very nice area if you have nice weather. On weekends you can visit as well the National Assembly house, which is quite nice. Don't miss the Pierhead building (red brick house in the photo), there is a video explaining the history behind this amazing building. At the entrance there was a gentleman who welcomed us and showed us around. I must say he was extremely interested to tell us a bit the history of the building and recommended we visited the National Assembly house. We were pretty tired but motivated by him to visit the surroundings!
Plenty of places to eat & drink but does get very busy. If weather is right would recommend walking around to Penarth (lovely pub - The Old Custom House overlooking the bay & you can catch the water taxi back).
I took my 15 year old son here and we both had a fantastic day. There was lots to see and do. It felt great to sit near the Welsh assembly and eat ice cream! Lots of great music and lots to eat and drink! Loved it.
Get the boat from Bute park and if you're travelling too late for a return trip the buses are so cheap and easy to get, returning to the city centre (if that's where you're staying) is no trouble. There are also taxi ranks as well of course.
If you can! Walk all the way to the bar on the far side of the bay and have a drink by the sea lock gates and then get the water taxi back. Yoy can go both way on the water taxi if you don't fancy the walk.
I was dissapointed as it states it is in Cardiff bay and we had to.walk 20 minutes - i cannot walk that far so had to get a taxi. I am also appalled that we had to.pay £10 to park in the hotel carpark when we already paid to stay in the hotel! It's disgusting!! We were also woken up.at 3.30 am by a fire alarm going off for no reason so in all a very dissapointing and unhappy stay!
Always stay here - the location is great as it's a short walk to the city centre and Cardiff bay! The staff are always so friendly, the car park is convenient, the rooms are always so clean and comfy and nothing is ever a bother. Wouldn't book anywhere else.
I had really good time. Bedroom and bathroom are really spacious with a nice view to the city. Breakfast was good, but it could be better. Near to city center it was easy to walk around, but a bit far from the Cardiff bay.
The hotel's location is very convenient for exploring Cardiff city centre and Cardiff bay - a short walk to both places. It's easy to get to the hotel by car too.
