Durham Cathedral is one of my favourite cathedrals in the world, a magnificent example of Norman (English Romanesque) architecture. I've been several times and never tire of it. The location is amazing, too, on a hill with the castle opposite, and the river far below.

    One of my favourite cathedrals.

One of my favourite cathedrals. If you want a guided tour, which I recommend, try and have Alan as your guide. He is so very knowledgeable and has a wonderful sense of humour. I tried to book a ticket and/or tour of the castle, but it was closed for private functions, like weddings, for both the days I was in Durham. Early booking is obviously the answer! Walk through town was also good.

    What a building!

What a building! We don't like being charge to enter God's house so were pleasantly surprised to be asked, with no pressure, for a donation which we were delighted to do. It was certainly the highlight of your short visit to Durham

Everything went well. The Hotel building has amazing decor in the restaurant, rotunda and common areas. The room was comfortable, and the shower was great. Good selection of items for breakfast. The location is not far from the main attractions, Durham cathedral and castle within walking distance a bit uphill. The hotel car park was full, but there is paid street parking right in front of the hotel.

The location, the large room with furnishings not usually included with accommodations at this price, the excellent breakfast and the extremely kind personnel. Even with Durham Cathedral being closed for matriculation ceremonies, it was a very memorable visit.

A great location, just a short walk (~15 minutes) from Durham Cathedral and Castle. The breakfast was quite good, and the staff were kind and responsive to our needs. The room fit four of us (2 adults, 2 kids (14, 11)) comfortably. Parking was easy, and the Indian restaurant on the property was good.
