Edinburgh Castle

Stretching down almost 100 feet, this tree-like coral shelf lies in the middle of a beautiful garden of gorgonians. It’s in these plants that the rare pygmy seahorse makes its home – so Amed Wall is your best shot of catching a glimpse. Reef sharks and sea turtles also roam these waters, so there’s no shortage of deep-sea wonders to check out.

Having a tour guide is recommended and you should plan on starting the tour around midday so that you get to see the canon firing at 1 pm. You do need to be able to walk on cobblestones and walk uphill. Not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobiity

In order to truly understand a country, it is essential to first become acquainted with its history, as well as its cultural and ethnographic heritage. The tour I took part in at Edinburgh Castle was led by an outstanding guide who skillfully maintained our interest throughout the experience. With a touch of humor, she presented only the most important and noteworthy highlights, making the tour both engaging and informative.

    Love it!

Love it! Took us longer than anticipated to walk around due to the crowds, in September. We pre-purchased out tickets for 11 a.m. thinking we'd end with the 1 p.m. gun salute. However, earlier crowds were still there at 11 a.m. and it just got busier and busier. It became tough to really enjoy the exhibits and the interior rooms got quite warm (it was wet the day we were there so we were carrying jackets). There were also lines to get into various spaces. When we left at 2 p.m. the line ups to get in were wild and I can't imagine what their experience would have been like. I would highly recommend getting your tickets in advance for the earlier time slots, if you really want to enjoy the exhibits around the castle.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city. Most of the interior has been stripped. The Crown jewels were absolutely nothing compared to The Tower of London exhibition. Very unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies all cobbles and slopes. Difficult with a stick. All in all a bit of a tourist trap all around the area.

We saw Edinburgh Castle on our last trip but there is always something new to see. Look for the room with the tapestries hanging from the wall - they took 13.5 years to complete. Missed that last time. There is a lot to see.

This was my second time visiting Edinburgh Castle. The first time I did an audio tour and this time signed up for a guided tour. Both work, but the tour lead by a guide was really great, though more expensive.
