The staff were wonderful! The food was exceptional and the facilities were light, clean and pleasant in every respect. The hotel was a short walk to the two places I came to see: Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle. I recommend the Tower Hotel unreservedly.

The hotel was absolutely gorgeous throughout! The staff were incredibly nice, stored luggage for us and made checking in and out easy. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice and quiet. It's not often that you can look out the window and see a castle! We loved the convenience of the location and our tapas dinner at Ole Ole next door was wonderful (reservations encouraged). There were lots of quality options at the continental breakfast (beautiful pastries, breads, sliced meat and cheese, fruit, yogurt, and more). We would return in a heartbeat!

Go to evensong for the best appreciation of the cathedral.

Go to evensong for the best appreciation of the cathedral. Only about 40 minutes with beautiful choral music and you get to sit in the choir stalls. Free entry to the cathedral if you are attending a service, but you can't walk around taking photos

'Hunt' for the Imp. Great fun.

'Hunt' for the Imp. Great fun. Marvel at the stone decorations and the Apprentice wall. Check out the visceral tomb of Eleanor of Castile and remember it when you visit Westminster Abbey in London where she is 'fully' buried with her husband Edward I. We tried to find the fossils in the flagstones but they are quite worn down so weren't sure if we were seeing fossils. The entrance ticket is also an annual pass which we used again the next day before leaving Lincoln. We found everybody in the cathedral very approchable, knowledgeable and committed to the place.. It is an impressive cathedral indeed and the people working there bring the building alive. We recommend doing some research before, the experience is then deeper and more enjoyable.

It is a very magnificent sight but you do have to pay £9.00 (concessions available) to get in. This gives you a map and info leaflet and also the chance to join a very good guided tour of the cathedral. It also gives entry to other exhibitions well worth seeing, e.g. of ancient and their stone carvings from the famous West Front and their modern copies with good touch screen guide. It's a shame that those who can't afford the charge are excluded, unless they attend services there e.g. Evensong. (note to the Dean, give free entry to those on Universal Credit!)

The cathedral was fabulous and the admission charge becomes an annual pass if you gift aid it. The refectory was disappointing though, as the coffee was expensive but delicious, but the sandwiches took 40 minutes to arrive and weren't worth eating. My cheese and chutney sandwich had so little cheese in it that I couldn't taste it.
