Longleat Safari Park was fantastic. There is so much to do including visiting the house, the ‘cruise’ around gorilla island, the many animal exhibits and the maze that it is a very good value day out.
As we live near a safari park we just bought a house and ground ticket . We saw loads of animals including the koalas which we though we would have to pay extra for .. the keepers were so proud to speak about the animals as if they were family . We had a picnic at the tables provided near the parking area..
Be aware of the monkey mechanics ready to put the M in MOT There are alternate options such as taking the safari bus or booking a safari jeep with a keeper and have the real ‘off road’ safari experience (for a heftier sum)
Go straight to the safari entrance as there is a place you can get out to eat and walk through animal areas before you go into the safari park itself... wish we would have know as we needed a late lunch and the food areas by the house were very very busy and the hot dogs and fries staff were so slow I waited 15 mins and still had 6 people in front of me so had to give up and go to the safari before last entry at 2.30pm winter times ...
You do need all day to look around longleat the safari gets busy and takes a couple of hours to drive round, definitely a must do first thing to avoid queues! But on saying that the time goes very quickly looking at the animals! And you get a cd to listen to telling you about the animal species etc.
You can get here, by taking a bus to Corsley Heath and walking thru the woods. The safari bus takes you thru the park. If you take your own car, be prepared for the monkeys to rip bits off your car-aerials, roof trim etc. Apparently, they prefer red or blue cars.
