Even though you can buy a ticket to view all attractions at entry to the docks, they were charging extra for the Mary Rose. Also expect any bags you bring to be searched on entry. Last time I visited I was with someone visually impaired and she found it difficult to view and get round as they were mimicking the light levels that sailors would have experienced. This ranged from a normal light level to near darkness. The lower light levels left her struggling to see where see was going and spoiled the experience. Also felt the museum was confusing to get around and a little claustrophobic.
A unique experience, having travelled the globe I have never come this close to an historical event. The presentation is inspired, these are not just inanimate objects, they are artefacts that project a past life associated with real individuals and in this respect present a real memorial to all that perished that day.
Don't rush through this museum. It has been thoughtfully curated for a 21st century visitor. The ship is mirrored by its artefacts with explanations that offer as much or little information as you wish. Character actors provide colour but more importantly a personal connection to the story of the ship.
If you also want to see the Spinnaker Tower, go their first and get a combined ticket for the Tower + the Mary Rose. The combined ticket is not available at the Mary Rose, you have to go to the Spinnaker first.
I saw rhe Mary Rose in 1985 so pleased I could visit the museum to see her after all these years. It's amazing what has been achieved. We spent hours there. I would suggest ask any of the staff there anything you want to know. They are so informed and add to the pleasure of the visit.
We saved quite a bit of money buying our ticket online. The ticket lasts for a years entry. It does not get you into any of the other museums that are there though (it did in the past). There is a bag search and I don’t think there is anywhere to store bags e.g if you had a backpack you should check prior to see if you would be allowed to take it in
Location close to naval museum and Mary Rose museum.
Easy, friendly access - particularly the Mary Rose Museum was an experience beyond expectation.
