Smashing day, though smaller than I remember. 2 planes open for visitors to board (incl avro Vulcan). Talks were amazing - very friendly & informative. Just wish could fit more into limited space. Maybe a simulator, or something interactive for flight experience? Games station might keep visitors in longer, though takes attention from the history. No spitfires or WW2 planes though? No engine starts. WW2/Blitz feature with aviation focus would have been good. Motor museum had a tiny little feature. Tornado/harrier were nice, but not many helicopters. Puma/seaking/lynx/etc. Think gov should donate an aircraft carrier top deck & hangars (though not sure where would squeeze it in - who needs a train museum). Great day out, thank you! Was nice hearing the flight school next door (ambience). Are there any restrictions to expanding underground? Lot of thoughts, still enjoyed visit though (as did my son)!
Coventry has a great aeronautical engineering heritage which fully justifies this modest museum. Sadly the museum is not well funded and I am sure that a few million pounds could make it just as good as the motoring museum. However for anyone with an interest in this aspect of Coventry history it does contain some gems, including a static Vulcan, the cockpit of which is open to visitors.
Brilliant. A 10 minute drive from the city centre. The airport is on a bus route too. Visit the Roman fort nearby. Have a look at the old oak tree (yet another centre of England). Pay your respects to the Polish pilots resting the the churchyard - from the days when RAF Baginton was in the centre of the action. Have a meal at the Baginton Mill.
