Great museum but the food was poor, paid nearly £4 for a slice of pizza and it was cold, hard and dry. The menu needs an upgrade. Other than the food, it was great! probably bring our own food next time.
Fabulous. Even if you're not a train enthusiast it was amazing to see all the engines & memorabilia. So much to see. You need to spend a good few hours there to see it all. Have a break in between cafe is located near entrance
This is a must visit if you are going to York. There is so much to see in this museum so allow plenty of time - at least a couple of hours or more if you can. My wife is not into trains and was a bit uncertain about going but ended up really enjoying it - particularly looking inside the old Royal trains with all the lovely fittings - seeing Rocket , inside a Bullet train - all the lovely old engines and models galore. It's just an amazing place and children will love it. There is also very good catering there. Entrance is free but they would like a donation of say £5 but its well worth it and one of the best York experiences.
Set aside a good couple of hours plus for this wonderful museum, our favourite on our trip to York. Parking available at £10 for any part of a day. Tokens for exit can only be got at the Centre reception. There is a small train that for £3 per pp single trip will take you directly to York Minster. Return train available.
Fabulous museum with two great big warehouses of interesting railway things to see. Skip the steam train. It goes about 50 feet and is a complete waste of money! Museum is free entry with suggested donation so I would suggest giving a donation for the price of the train ride instead.
A great facility charting the changes in railway history. Huge engines and carriages on display, and listen out for the announcement for them turning an engine on the turntable. An amazing peice of engineering!

Great value breakfast. Rooms have a great view of the river and York minister if you are high enough up. Great location between the 2 main bridges so less than 10 min walk to the Viking centre and just under 15 min to the national railway museum . Tea , coffee and hot chocolate provided in the room which some hotels don’t provide the hot chocolate. Parking at the hotel is also convenient

We stayed at the hotel with our 9year old daughter. It was in a great location with only a 10 minute walk into the town centre and a 30 minute walk along the river to the National Railway Museum. Staff were friendly and the pool was great.
