Quite a long street from Charing Cross to Hope street. The phonetic pronunciation of this street is sokky hall street. don't laugh,a lot of peculiarities with words in Scotland. A brief smile is acceptable.
Long stretch of high street for shopping, cafes and restaurants, also world famous architect and designer C. R. Makintosh designed Tea Room Willows, Contemporary Art Centre are on this street. Other attractive places are close by.
Where did the Glasgow of the '70's go?? When I was a youngster this was a drab city in many ways, today it is incredible and open, so much to do and so many places to eat and enjoy your time out and about.
Loved walking down the street, about a half hour from where we stayed to the museum. Went back there for dinner at a place called AK BAR which served us unique and tasty dinner ( lamb Chops! And the garlic nan was huge and good. Waitress, Kookie was from Syria and kind, helpful and professional!
For now a place to avoid i would say.Terrible road works at one end and near the other end big diversions due to a huge fire, a lot of homeless people lying in door ways at night but even in the day too people begging for money could be a problem for some as they may feel intimidated.
In the daytime be at the Buchanan galleries end for shopping or head out of the town centre to the Kelvingrove gallery. By dinner time stay near this area as there are a whole host of great pubs and restaurants along the stretch between Kelvingrove and the M8.
Beds are always super comfortable at the Malmaison. And I love their deep baths. I also alway enjoy their breakfasts, though being in Covid times , I do miss the buffet experience. Walkable from Queen Street station, but a bit remote, but only 2 blocks from Sauchiehall Street, and 10 minutes back to the main drag of Queen Street. Cafes and restaurants hidden in the Georgian buildings around Blythwood Square that look yummy and tasty.
The Argyll Guest House is a satellite property of the Argyll Hotel, which is directly opposite; I was fortunate in that when I checked in (check in is at the hotel), there was a parking space available in the hotel's car park. The room itself was clean and the location, in Sauchiehall Street, is ideal.
The staff were very friendly. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed. The tv had a good selection of channels. The breakfast was delivered to my room promptly everyday. The location was excellent, just off Sauchiehall Street.
