Amazing castle, one of our favorites in Scotland, especially if you have kids they have a whole area for them to learn, play and interact with the history of the Castle - wich is also fun for adults. the map they give at the entrance is very helpful, as it guides you so you don't miss a thing. Plus you even have actors bringing the castle alive, empersonating historical figures and interacting with visitors. The castle also offers great views over stirlingshire and Wallace Monument ahead. Make sure you have at least one hour, maybe two to learn and see everything. And dont miss the Castle Kitchens! you can also park your car outside the castle for 4£.
Great castle, better than Edinburgh castle. Is not useful to buy internet tickets you should go to the queue again to validate. On site write that you mast buy tickets online 1 day before to access slot visiting from 9-11. Not true, selling tickets from 9.30 at office tickets. 08.2018
Visit the gift shop, make your purchases and then put them in your car. We were very disappointed when we came down from the monument to find the gift shop closed and my son could not get a sword that he really wanted and that we had not seen anywhere else!! I wish they would keep the gift shop open for 30 minutes past the monument closing to give last minute visitors time to purchase items.
really great, but its a long climb if your walking to the castle, theres a good carpark in the Castle grounds tho. Visit the Jail on your walk up the hill, a well rehearsed guided tour, fun and informative.loved my three days in Stirling a nice friendly town.
Allow plenty of time. Arrive early if you want to get into the car park near the castle. I didn't and the walk all the way up to the Castle from town is a challenge but worth the effort just for the views. The audio tour is definitely worth taking if you are at all interested in the history.
It is a beautiful ancient castle, well worth a visit! (Entrance ticket includes a free guided tour inside the castle, then one can roam around and look for more details, such as the Queen's chambers, and the kitchen.
The fact that the room had a bathroom, even if it was split into 3 different parts. The one female staff member that was there on the second day was excellent and gave some good information. It was also in very close proximity to Stirling Castle, the Old Jail and the Church of the Holy Rude, and as the Hostel is already located close to the top of the hill it was an easy walk to see the sights that were open. I also liked that since it was at the top of a steep climb up a hill that I managed to get my exercise each day I went out.
We travelled as an extended family of two adult and two children, staying in two rooms. The reception staff at check in were friendly and efficient, as were the staff in at the leisure facility. The children particularly liked the swimming pool. Our rooms were conveniently situated on the ground floor. The hotel was near Stirling Castle and there were some lovely restaurants in the vicinity. As we were only staying for one night it met our needs.
This was a great little apartment and very close to Stirling Castle and town. It was our last stop before moving on to another country and after 9 days of travel was great to have washing machine and dryer. The host had left milk, tea and coffee which I though was a really nice touch. First floor apartment was a bonus. Loved this stay.
The whole experience of the stay was lovely. The environment and facilities at the hotel was perfect, we had afternoon tea at the orangery restaurant and breakfast both were delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location is in close proximity to the city centre shops and also Stirling castle.
The apartment is located in a quiet neighbourhood, less than 10 mins by car from the Stirling Castle, and 5 mins from grocery stores. The apartment had all the required amenities, great Wi-Fi connectivity, comfortable bed and a functional kitchen. It was easy to communicate with the hosts Olga and Giuseppe.
The Golden Lion Hotel is positioned in a great area .. You can walk to many of the tourist attractions, just a short walk to Stirling Castle. We had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast was hot and served by great staff ... this is our second stay at this hotel.
The apartment is very comfortable. It is well located and close to amenities. It was also close to the railway station which made travelling into Edinburgh very convenient. It was a short walk to Stirling Castle and a short drive to the Wallace Monument.
Nice clean comfortable room. Polite helpful staff. Lovely big breakfast. Ideal location to walk around Stirling and see attractions such as Stirling Castle. Short drive to the William Wallace monument.
The hotel was located close to Stirling Castle- the bathroom was excellent with a rain shower- evening meal was very good and they catered for gluten free diet. Parking was ok . staff were friendly.
Stirling castle is absolutely astounding in their attention to detail in the restoration work.
Stirling Castle was very big and had very elaborate exhibitions for visitors. A small renovation on the exterior grounds going on, but did not disrupt my visit at all. The Stirling Heads were fabulous, whole place kept me entertained for over 4 hours, very much worth the price!
You can visit Stirling Castle and the battlefield of the Bannockburn
