Very upscale with a quaint feel. Breakfast was delicious and we both really enjoyed our dinner there also. Walking around the estate was both beautiful and peaceful watching the lambs run around. The rain boots were available for loan if the grounds are wet/ muddy.

The castle is wonderful, full of so much Scottish royal history. Parking is tight in the lots. Our car incurred a substantial scrape that cost 2100 pounds to the rental agency. Glad we had supplemental insurance. I'd suggest going earlier than your entry tickets and parking on the street behind the castle, not coming up the hill from downtown.

    Loved visiting the castle.

Loved visiting the castle. We did the guided tour first which really helped us get our bearings around the castle, and then explored alone. We were there mid afternoon and ended up having a take away cuppa on one of the gun terraces all alone - after all of the coaches had left. Just wonderful!

    Really helpful staff.

Really helpful staff. We had a person with limited mobility, and they suggested and allowed us to use their wheelchair and drove us up to the top of the castle so that we only had to deal with the cobbles coming down.

A historical Castle which was built on a mound overlooking...

A historical Castle which was built on a mound overlooking the Town and surrounding land. The Castle on 3 sides is very rocky and steep making it very difficult for enemy forces to scale. The main entrance has a moat which no longer has water in it and a draw bridge which no longer can be removed and a portcullis to prevent attack by invading forces. The Castle was used by Royalty both Scottish and English. Road to the Castle Esplanade is cobble stones and can be very unco when driving or walking up the steep hill . There is a charge to park on the Esplanade and to gain entry to the Castle. There is a discount from the admission to the Castle Via Historic Scotland membership which is well worth taking out. When visiting the Castle there is a part of the Castle which sticks out like a sore thumb a yellow building which is the Banqueting Hall. For a very long time hundreds of years the Banqueting Hall was the same colour as the rest of the Castle. In 1990’s someone came up with a plan that the Castle Banqueting Hall was originally a yellow colour when constructed and should be returned to that colour. This plan was passed and ever since the work on the Banqueting Hall was complete. The Castle does not look the same any more it’s as if the Banqueting Hall was stuck on to the rest of the Castle.

The castle is full of very interesting historical items as well as items from more recent times. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. There is a little cafe on site selling a variety of hot and cold snacks. Thought the inclusion of little lego men in some of the displays a very good idea to keep children occupied looking for them and noting where they were.

We used this hotel as a base between Stirling Castle and Glengoyne Distillery and had a rental car. This worked fine for us, but to stay here, a car is necessary. Gartmore is a charming village in the middle of countryside. The room and ensuite bathroom were excellent, spacious and quiet. Dinner was delicious, breakfast choices were many and also delicious. The hotel is charming and the staff exceedingly friendly and helpful. We would stay here again and recommend it to those with cars.

The apartment is at a beautiful quiet area, close to a supermarket, but not far away from Stirling Castle. The apartment has pretty much everything we needed and is spacious and clean . They even offer to provide a folding bed which was very helpful. The place is only 35 mins to Edinburgh airport. It is much cheaper to stay here before heading to EDI if you have a car.

The location was great for visiting Stirling Castle. It is an uphill walk, but not far. It was helpful to be able to walk there because parking is very limited at the castle. Getting into the apartment, was very easy and the host let us check in early which helped our schedule.
