iincredible! many many steps and staircases, try to avoid in intense heat, but a great experience to be had! history, friendly beefeaters, and of course, the ravens...who get their "blood-soaked biscuits" every day!
Always a highlight of my trip to London and the free Yoemon tour is worth the hour or so - don't let the crowd lining up deter you! The food is actually pretty good in the cafeteria - lots of space to sit down and relax if you need to get off your feet for a bit.
Take a glance to the Crown Jewels, since they're the main attractions, come early in the morning and spare yourself from a very long queue. Once you exit, enjoy the view from Tower Bridge and go grab some fish and chips.
Did you know the magpies outside the Tower have their wings clipped so they cannot fly away. Do pay for a guide to take you around, many interesting features that you will miss if doing it yourself. Especially the princes' bodies being underneath the stair of one of the Towers, facinating!!
you get a good sense of the history of England as well as the city of London when you visit the Tower of London. The highlight is the opportunity to see the Crown Jewels. The Tower of London should not be missed on any visit to London.
The Crown Jewels are well worth seeing; the Beefeater tour was highly disappointing. The guide was fine (though I found his frequent humor a bit inappropriate), but there were way too many people and it was often impossible to hear about the history of the place.

Location was great, flew into Gatwick airport and took the train into London city, was able to just walk across the Tower of London to get to the apartment. So I got to see a visitor's tourist spot while getting to the apartment. Check in and check out were a breeze, it was nice having someone from security at the entrance of the building to say hello to you. Walking distance to bars and food. Algate tube was close by also.

The location was fantastic, a short walk to Tube, Shard (not that I would visit again) and a 15min walk to the Tower of London. The room was tight for 2 adults and 2 kids but comfortable, warm and quiet after a long flight. All the facilities were good and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Amazing breakfast and the staff was decent checking in but amazing when I checked out. My first room as disgusting and had not been cleaned since the last person left. I notified the staff and they gave me a room on the same floor with in my opinion a much better view of the Tower of London.

Very comfy, nice big bed. Just a short walk to the tower of london, the location made traveling around very easy.
There is a mixture of cultures and civilizations with more than 2,000 years of history blended... from the ruins of the Rroman City Londinium, the impresive Tower of London and the modern buildings all together. The best of all are the museums, some are free to visit, like the British Museum with a perfect collection of objects of different times and civilizations.
The Tower of London is well kept - other than some short stretches of defensive wall almost all other ancient fortifications are obliterated.
A walk around Westminster, taking in the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben etc.... then walk over Westminster bridge and stroll up the South Bank to Tower Bridge - nice walk, views and plenty of nice "traditional" pubs to take breaks in.....!!
The Great old buildings like Westminster, Tower and Tower Bridge, and the new ones like Shakespeare's Globe which was only built recently but it is the perfekt replica of the original Globe. London is a great city with a great history and historical places.
Invest in the Oyster card in case the kids get tired from all the walking. Also download the kids explorer kit (avail on London Tourism site) to keep them excited to visit sites such as the Tower of London and forget how far of a walk it can be.
In this area of London, almost every step you take along the Thames river gives you a feeling for Charles Dickens characters, but you must go by foot get around the back streets and explore. Despite the new high rise buildings there are still many old houses and warehouses that evoke a sense of history. Within a 20/30 minute walk, you can get to Tower bridge, St Paul's Cathedral the modern Tait gallery, the London eye and the houses of Parliament. You won't get bored.
