Amazing place very sad and has been on my bucket list for a long time , so happy I finally done the trip the hairs on the back of my neck stand up even at the mention of this place 😢 this is history sad and shocking history but you must visit this place 😔
This trip was very educational but dark and depressing as you might expect a prison tour to be. I would not recommend taking children simply because they might become board as the trip focuses mainly on the history of the revolutionaries who we're imprisoned and executed there in the early 1900's.
If you take one of the city tour busses from O'Connell street here - allow at least 2 hours to get there as it is pretty far with plenty of stops. Alternatively you can get a normal city bus (for much cheaper) - I got on the "hop on hop off" bus out of panic to be honest. Its definately worth booking in advance as when we arrived they were already fully booked for the entire day. Managed to get a ticket for the next day and the staff were helpful. I really enjoyed the visit though I wish in the museum (which you can visit independently of the Gaol) there was more on Irish history. The tour is great, though a bit short and you need to be quick with your camera as there isnt much opportunity to click away. Worth the visit - and next to it is a park and the modern art gallery, with the hospital near by too.
Get hop and off bus which takes you straight there You need to prebook do it on line or on your phone it will tell you to p[rint your ticket off if you do it on your phone you can print your ticket off at the gaol
