Muckross House highlights

New Cathedral
It’s called the New Cathedral, but it’s not that new. Building started in 1513 and finished in 1733 for this beauty. The most famous bit of the cathedral does have modern origins, however. Look closely at the façade and you’ll see an astronaut carved into the stone, as well as a faun eating an ice cream! Maybe it does live up to its name after all.
Muckross House and Gardens
From the small and sedate to the grand and sublime, a trip to Muckross House encapsulates the full range of Killarney's natural beauty. Parts of the gardens are carefully cultivated, with neat paths, manicured hedgerows and plants chosen with an exacting eye so their blooms create a burst of colour. But look out over Lake Muckross and you'll be treated to the wild side of the Irish countryside – rugged mountains arcing towards the sky, untamed acres of woodland and glittering water that looks silver in the sun.
