Crowded and the best views blocked by metal barriers and Tarps - one end was scaffolding getting ready for a stage to be built for a concert! - There are never enough seats for people to rest - if you sit at an empty restaurant table, you get asked to move on unless you buy something!

Be there one hour before opening - ideal time to avoid long queue and to queue in bearable temperatures. Take the "full options" visit - the simple tour of the cathedral is nice but you are missing a lot of the most impressive attractions This is a church : mind your clothing (especially, no bare shoulders allowed)

Make sure to book a tour with a guide which goes in during the 1 hour the lights are on in the Basilica and also goes behind the altar to see the golden altar piece! We did and were sitting in the nave at the end of our tour when the lights went out and the difference was very notable.
