No use going to Florence and not climbing to the top of the Duomo. The inside of the church itself is not very impressive, but it´s worth every penny to purchase the ticket (directly from the Catedral de Santa Maria - site) to schedule your visit up to the Duomo, and all the other parts outside and around the Catedral. Even the tower is included. The wait in line to go up with tickets is short because it´s at scheduled times - The tower line is a little longer, but sitll worth it. It´s 400 steps to cimb up to the Duomo - but the view is absolutelly worth it. The tower has less stairs, but in my opinion, the Duomo was much nicer to visit. The top of the bell tower is as if you´re in a cage. The Catedral with all the colored marbel is a sight to see.
I am so surprised that we only had to queue for 15-20 minutes, not 2 hours like was mentioned in the many blogs I had read prior to my visit. The Duomo is worth the queue under the summer's sun. No entry ticket into the Duomo unless you want to go up Giotto's bell tower, baptistry and the dome. Be modestly dressed- no beachwear for both sexes, no exposed shoulders and elbows for women. I saw a few tourists being turned away for not being appropriately dressed. It was a total waste of their time queuing, only to be turned away at the doorway.
The building itself is glorious of course, but I want to give the WARNING to not buy tickets from this place https://grandemuseodelduomo.waf.it/en/cumulative-ticket-great-museum-of-the-cathedral-of-florence. Yes, it is official site, but it operates like scam scheme probably because it is badly managed. We bought the tickets on this website to avoid queues in ticket office (but the queue in ticket office is not that bad actually). We waited for couple of hours to tickets to be emailed but with no results we went to official ticket office (in museo del Duomo) to ask for help. We were assisted by very unpleasant woman who kept saying that she cant help and it tells on the purchase website that the ticket will be emailed within 3 days! Which is complete nonsense because it allows to choose today's date for the visit. We asked for refund and she said that tickets are not refundable. Then she put the closed sign in front of our faces and left the till. We were really shocked with this kind of service and we heard another colleague of her's commenting in Italian that 'these stupid tourists don't understand'. Very very poor service and bad representation of this beautiful city. We are trying to get our money back through bank now, because we think its nonsense to sell tickets for the day, but they would be valid just in 3 days from the purchase :/
We actually obtained tickets to climb to the top of the Duomo which also included the Baptistry and entry to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Definitely go into the cathedral although the line can be very long. Once inside go to the basement where you can see where the original church was located. This cathedral was built over this much older church. You can see the burial plot where the designer (Brunelleschi) of Neri's Dome is buried (located in the gift shop). The ticket included Giotto's Campanille but we were too tired to climb up those stairs.
outside is spectacular don't bother waiting in the queues for 1 1/5 hours to go inside it is very disappointing. You have to book In advance (June) 72 HOURS prior to getting a reservation for the cupola so if you are there for a short time book on line before arriving (you cannot change the time once booked and it costs 18 euro) most annoyed that I didn't do the research before I got there.
Don’t be scared of long que, it goes very quickly so I wouldn’t recommend paying extra for a guide or skip the line, you have to book a time if you wanna clime the Duomo though. You can book via official website. Make sure you are dressed accordingly- knees and shoulders covered. A teenager was before me and was walking around in a black bin bag 😂
Great central location. Walkable to most of the important Florence historic sites and museums (Accademia, Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), as well as restaurants and shopping. Very nice room, super-attentive staff and beautiful rooftop restaurant and bar with an amazing view of the city. A plus if you arrive by train - the hotel is a very short walk from the train station. Even lugging our suitcases packed for a three-week trip, it was easily walkable for my husband and me.
The property is very centrally located - a few minutes away from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and within walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio and other sights as well as many restaurants and shops and the train station. The host, Filippo, was very welcoming and offered suggestions for everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable as well as checked in on us a few times to make sure we were comfortable and content. I recommend the property and would certainly return.
The property offered a full breakfast delivered to our room - it was excellent! Our room was on the 5th floor and had windows on 2 sides overlooking the rooftops of Florence ... one had a small balcony where we enjoyed our breakfast, and from the other we could see the domes of the Basilica di San Lorenzo & the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo), Giotto's Bell Tower & the tower of the Palazzo Vecchio, and the city's surrounding hills.
The location of Soggiorno Antica Torre cannot be beat! The front door opens right into Piazza della Signoria and is right around the corner from the world famous Uffizi Gallery. Not to mention it is within walking distance of the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Both receptionists were accommodating and made us feel welcome! The whole B&B was very cozy and felt like home :)
The apartment was right next to Ponte Vechio. 5 minutes walk to the Uffizzi, Piazza Della Signoria, Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore and 10 minutes from L'accademia. There was a convenience store just across the street. The views from the window was amazing. You could see the Ponte Vechio, the clock tower and Duomo in addition to the Arno river.
Excellent apartment! Owners met us with the keys a couple hours before check in. Room was nice and clean, very spacious. Washing machine was nice to refresh our clothes. Location is very good, 20 minute walk to the train station, 1 minute to Basilica of Santa Croce and the Piazza, 10 minute walk to Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Well appointed apartment with a great location and comfy bed. Up one flight of stairs, The location is a 5 minute walk from the Florence Santa Maria Novella train station and 12 minute walk from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Neighborhood has restaurants all over the place. Will stay here when I'm back in Florence.
Excellent location not far away from Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore; restaurants and mini-marts nearby; breakfast can be selected the night before (eggs, croissants, ham, cheese etc.); and friendly and helpful staff. Great value for money.
The location was great. It was very close to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. This was a budget hotel, so we were satisfied with what we got for how much we paid. Thanks for all your help, Vicente!
