There is very little shade and all the streets are hard and uneven. Make sure you apply suncream, take your sunglasses and wear a hat/umbrella. Be prepared for a physical experience! To see the extensive ruins is a lot of walking. Even if you are in good shape and can walk with full capacity, the walking is hard because the road and sidewalks are not flat and you stroll, stop/start, and turn a lot which is what makes exploring Pompeii so enjoyable--you are walking through an extensive city.Guest review byEdwardUnited States - 4.0

I could live next to the ruins just to be able to visit as often as possible. The preserved frescos, murals, and mosaics are so attractive. The balcony offers beautiful sunrise / sunset view of the city, even though the surroundings block the sight somewhat. The apartment is <5 min walk away from the train station, the Cathedral, and restaurants. The eastern entrance to the Pompeii ruins is also a short walk away.
