Go later in the afternoon with the best views of the sunset and spectacular sunset and pictures to remember. Don't leave it for the last day of your trip like me, you might just break down and cry because it is so beautiful and you do not want to leave.....
We went in November so I'm not sure if maybe they don't have lights at night during the colder months but we were bummed when we went at night and couldn't really see anything. Go during the day to see the full affect!
This place is simply too overcrowded with street peddlers and tourists. It is hard to take a decent photos. Nevertheless, it is pretty lively and vibrant. Take some time to admire the artworks of the local artists as they nimbly sketch the beautiful views from Ponte Vecchio.
Don't miss the WWII history on the Florentine bridges. The Ponte Vecchio was the only one left standing, and there's a market near the middle of the bridge acknowledging one of those responsible for helping to preserve the Ponte Vecchio. It's an odd feeling to know you are standing where troops retreated and others followed. I am so grateful it was spared.
The bridge itself looks much better from the spot along the river, as standing on the bridge is quite tiring experience - endless crowds, jewellery shops everywhere and some gypsy people following you around, and stealing money from the fountain... All in all, except the jewellery shops which attract too many people, it is a beautifully kept piece of medieval architecture.
Awesome in its architectural, historical-ness, but so touristy. It's all about jewellery, folks. Wish it was mostly set up as a sort of museum to life back in the days when the Medici's ruled. Sure, have a few mosaic/inlay shops or someone who has the old ways of making jewellery, but right now it's all mammon.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location of the hotel is central, being 5 min walking distance to the train station, 10 min to the Florence Cathedral and 30 min to the Ponte Vecchio. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and filling; it offered a variety of food to choose from :ham, prosciutto, mortadella, mozzarella, sweet corn, egg, tomatoes, croissants, cake, bread, juice, coffee. The room was clean and it was equipped with a good air conditioner; it had a spacious bathroom and a dressing room.
Good hotel for few day stay, clean, quiet, good mattresses and pillows, good shower. Breakfast is more than enough, with an essential choice of sweet and salted meals. Position out of the center of Florence, with 15 min walking to the center and Ponte Vecchio and 5 min walking to Lungarno. I have found professional staff, helpful and quick, thank you staff! Good cost effectiveness, will be back the next visit to Florence
We love this hotel and it's one of several times we've stayed (we've lost count) the location is superb at the end of the Ponte Vecchio with easy access to the centre of Firenze. The room was large and well appointed. Breakfast, in these current times, was delivered to the table, avoiding too much crowding around a buffet. And the terrace overlooking the city is a great place for a meal or a drink.
The situation, size and cleanliness of the apartment, the quality of the equipment and furniture, the view on Ponte Vecchio from the balcony ;-), the kindness and responsivity of the host (we even received a few welcome presents). NB: The check-in process (i.e. access to the building and apartment) was fully online and requires a Smartphone + an internet connection. Everything ran smoothly for us.
The Portrait in Florence is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms are immaculate and the interior design is breathtaking. We had a room with direct view of the Ponte Vecchio. Vladimir at the reception was great, and the check in and check out were very smooth. I definitely recommend it and would like to come back to Florence just to say there again.
- fantastic apartment directly at the Arno river between Ponte Vecchio and Ponte Santa Trinita - highlight is the balcony and views on the river - fully equipped kitchen and living room - host waited for me directly in front of the residence, although I was arriving late - nice wine store on the opposite side of the street
Boutique hotel situated on second floor of building in central Florence - very close to the main shopping streets, museums, the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. We had a lovely room with an excellent shower and were made very welcome by the friendly staff who recommended restaurants and cafes and made reservations for us.
Generally great hostel/hotel where you really get value for money. OK sizeable rooms considering the price, Good service, and cleaning everyday was good and facilities were well maintained. OK located with a 20 min. walk to Ponte Vecchio and Oltrarno.
It was by far our most comfortable and cozy stay in Firenze. The hotel is lovely, conformable, with an impressive art collection and a beautiful view on the Arno river and Ponte Vecchio. We felt spoiled in there.
Great hotel. Best possible location in Florence near Ponte Vecchio. Nice rooftop bar. Room was very nice and big with a balcony.
Either climb up to Piazza Michelangelo to watch the sun set over the whole city or walk to Ponte Vecchio and watch the sunset over the water and other bridges.
Taxi to Piazza Michelangelo, walk back down over Ponte Vecchio and through the historical quarter passing La Duomo. Fantastico!
Ignore the tourist traps, walk over the Ponte Vecchio to the old quarter you'll find amazing restaurants and pizza. Cheap.
It is full of high end shops and you only need to visit the Ponte Vecchio with its end to end jewellery outlets to do that!!
