Palazzo Parigi Hotel & Grand Spa - LHW is in the heart of Milan's fashion district. This luxurious hotel offers air-conditioned rooms with a balcony or terrace and a restaurant. Location is almost near by city center and so quite... staff are so helpful...
Dare I say, a little overrated and underwhelming... It might be because the staff herd you in and out like cattle and you only get 10 minutes inside the room to look at everything, plus the museum was closed without a ticket discount, which is a little frustrating. Anyway, it's a nice building and surroundings too, not quite in the centre so you can see a small part of a different area of the city.
Worth all the hassle of getting a ticket. Can’t wait to compare with the (almost) contemporary copy at the Royal Academy in London which has all the feet, that were cut out at a later date in order to put in a door! Apparently, the position of Jesus’ feet in the fresco were a portent of his crucifixion. Such a shame Leonardo did not observe the proper techniques for painting a fresco, leading to its poor condition, unlike his near contemporary who painted the opposite wall. Fascinating display showing how the Milanesi protected it from bombing raids in the World War II.
Booked a walking tour which also included the Sforzo Castle and the Duomo. Our guide did a great job explaining the many symbolisms used by da Vinci, as well as the history - other groups after ours just rushed on out and obviously missed out on getting as rich an experience as we received!
It was incredible. One tip for people visiting... is that you CAN take your cameras in with you. This was not clear, so we ended up leaving ours in our locker. Turns out that you can take pictures, only if you do not use the flash light.
Book well in advance! Only guided tours at set times are allowed through to see the The Last Supper. It was booked out two weeks ahead of time when I arrived and was unaware you couldn't get tickets on the day. I was lucky enough to find a tour guide on the way in with their group who had a spare ticket so I bought it off her and tagged along with her group. No one else seemed to be that lucky and I had to leave my friend behind.
I'm sure this has already been mentioned but book early online - tickets do become available as people/parties cancel so keep looking at the ticket website. Collect your tickets from the office at least 15 mins before your visit timing (you'll get exactly 15 mins to see The Last Supper) and then enter through the Cenacolo glass doors (not through the Santa Maria church). They do allow cameras but, as you'd expect, no flash. Only 25-30 people are allowed into the viewing area at one time so there's plenty of space to see the wonder of LdV's masterpiece. This was on my 'bucket-list' and I wasn't disappointed....
+ The location of the flat (Loft / Via Torino 62) is central, the entrance of the house lies on a shopping street, very close to the Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) and also not far from the "Holy Mary of Grace" Church (Santa Maria delle Grazie) which hosts The Last Supper of Leonardo da Vinci. + The closest (but not cheapest) parking lot is a minute away (at via Nerino 6) + The roof-top terrace with the adjustible sun shade is just phenomenal! :)
The hotel is nice and cozy, located close to Navigli area with bars and restaurants. It is also not far away from the main city attractions - the Last Supper museum is some 20min - and the Duomo around 30min by foot. The tram station is also just 2min away from the hotel, but we decided to enjoy the good weather and walk around.
Location was perfect. Quiet but also near the city center and right across is the Last Supper!
