We did the tour with Get Your Guide and our guide Cece; she was wonderful the tour also include the castle and city center. It is a little confusing where you met the guide, but ours had someone there that told us where to stand and wait. Recommend getting to the meeting point early as the tour has specific times to see the Last Supper.
Viewing the masterpiece is a main reason for many to visit Milan so plan well in advance. Ticket bookings on the official site opens months in advance so you would need to check when the bookings open as the slots get booked very quickly once it opens. If you don't find tickets on the website, there are quite a few tour operators who offer tickets and guided tour (but obviously comes at a hefty premium) You need to arrive on time as tickets need to be collected, bags kept in free lockers and be ready with the group to get in as soon as your time slot arrives. The actual viewing is for 15 minutes, so spend some time reading up on the history of 'Last Supper' beforehand as that helps to admire the painting. Watch the painting from different positions and angles and once you exit, go through the various panels depicting the pain staking restoration work which has taken place
Dare I say, a little overrated and underwhelming... It might be because the staff herd you in and out like cattle and you only get 10 minutes inside the room to look at everything, plus the museum was closed without a ticket discount, which is a little frustrating. Anyway, it's a nice building and surroundings too, not quite in the centre so you can see a small part of a different area of the city.
Worth all the hassle of getting a ticket. Can’t wait to compare with the (almost) contemporary copy at the Royal Academy in London which has all the feet, that were cut out at a later date in order to put in a door! Apparently, the position of Jesus’ feet in the fresco were a portent of his crucifixion. Such a shame Leonardo did not observe the proper techniques for painting a fresco, leading to its poor condition, unlike his near contemporary who painted the opposite wall. Fascinating display showing how the Milanesi protected it from bombing raids in the World War II.
Booked a walking tour which also included the Sforzo Castle and the Duomo. Our guide did a great job explaining the many symbolisms used by da Vinci, as well as the history - other groups after ours just rushed on out and obviously missed out on getting as rich an experience as we received!
