We were very pleased with our stay in the Japanese style room. We had 2 active children (ages 2 &5) with us and there was plenty of space in the room for them to play. We especially appreciated the kids play room which our kids fully enjoyed. Our baby was also with us and the hotel had all of the amenities you could need/ want when traveling with a baby. We were given a diaper pail, a baby bathtub, and a baby bed. We were blown away by how family friendly the accommodation was and it was a comfortable stay for both parents and kids. We rented bikes to get around Kyoto and especially appreciated that the property had its own bike parking area. Although the property did not have any food offerings, we found a great breakfast spot just a few minutes walk away from the hotel and a cute little dinner spot right around the corner from the hotel serving some fabulous pastas (both restaurants were very kid friendly). Having these locations so close by before and after a long day of exploring the city with kids was very convenient. It is not easy to find hotels that can accommodate a larger family, but I was blown away by how wonderful an experience this was for us all. We would definitely stay here again the next time we visit Kyoto!

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

The Kiyomizu-dera – or Pure Water – Temple is a Kyoto must-see. Pilgrims have been flocking to this sacred site since the 8th century, so the steep path up is lined with souvenir stalls and snack stands. In spring, it looks out over a sea of pink cherry blossom, while autumn provides picture-perfect panoramas of flame-coloured maple trees.

On the way to the temple entrance there are a lot of shops selling local famous foods (like dango, mochi, matcha flavoured drinks and icecreams) and cute souvenirs. Most of these places accept only cash - so keep that handy if you want to buy. If you are a vegetarian, there are 1-2 restaurants serving vegan dishes, but they close lunch by 3 pm. So try to plan such that you finish your meal within that time.

Like anyone will tell you, make sure you go EARLY so you can beat the crowds. I went at about 8 or 9 AM just before a really big tourist crowd came in and I was able to see the temple and walk around fine. It is beautiful and you can get really nice views of the whole city from up there.

If you can visit the temple in June or Autumn, you'll have really great views. Always respect the temple surroundings and be silent. Other than that, you can enjoy a wonderful place made entirely without any nails. Also, you can walk the path next to the temple to get other unique views.

best to wear comfortable shoes as this is a bit of hike. best to approach this place from yazaka area the go thru the park towards ninenzaka and sanenzaka. these two streets have lots of small traditional shops which you can also explore. we had lunch in sannenzaka area and a tea experience is also worth around that place. so many snack area along the way and many visitors wear kimonos. best to visit during autumn or spring season
