Be sure to see the Angkor National Museum before you see the temples at Angkor. This is an excellent museum that provides a lot of information in an air conditioned space so your can read the explanations in comfort.
Useful to go there on your first day in Siem Reap - it sets up the context for your visit to the Angkor temples during the next few days. It was jam-packed with information, sometimes too much, and many of the sculptures and archaeological building features could have been better curated. Do take the audio-guide.
I thought the National Museum would include the history of the wars this Nation has endured as well, but No...so that's why I highly recommend the War Museum at Siem Reap. However the National Museum was fascinating in terms of the history of the Kings and the temples...although it was A LOT to take in, it was greta to have been here before we went to see the temples, as it gave them more meaning.
