Souk El Had of Agadir

El Had can’t claim to be Morocco’s most traditional market, but this bustling shopping spot is one of its most authentic. Purpose-built after the 1960 earthquake, the well-stocked souk has over 3000 stalls, selling everything from homeware and handbags to argan oil and fresh fruit and veggies. The great-value local spices make for a fragrant souvenir!

Souk Al Had was full of stalls, there were so many.

Souk Al Had was full of stalls, there were so many. We were lost for choices. People were so friendly and welcoming. We ended up visiting the souk twice. It took us awhile to go to every stall. Worth the visit. I would recommend anyone to make many trips there as it takes time to see everything. Lovely, bustling with life.

My wife and I have just returned from a week in Agadir, and the highlight of our trip was undoubtedly our three visits to Souk El Had in central Agadir. It’s an incredible market where you can find everything—from local crafts and fresh produce to electronics and household goods. The atmosphere was lively and exciting, making it a fantastic experience. The locals were very friendly, and we had no issues at all during our visits to the souk—or in Agadir in general. However, bartering is essential. The initial asking prices are often much higher than what you’ll actually pay, so it’s always worth negotiating—you can usually get an item for a fraction of the original price. While the vendors can be quite chatty, don’t feel pressured; just enjoy the experience and take your time. In terms of taxis, we found that 20 MAD (€2.00) was a fair price, and once we agreed on that rate, the drivers were happy to accept it. Overall, Souk El Had is a must-visit, offering a fantastic mix of culture, shopping, and local life. We’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Agadir!
