The Crowne Plaza Queenstown is centrally located, being only a short walk to Queenstown’s main streets and a 4-minute walk to the beach. The Crown Plaza was amazing. Some rooms have views of Lake Wakatipu.
Nice view of the town. Fun watching the downhill mountain bikers below. The luge was a lot of fun (I did the "easy" track, spouse did the steeper, faster track). Totally worth it, would do it again.
Take advantage of the gondola and luge if the weather is good. If you're taking the luge, the only place to view and purchase your photos is up the top where the Luge begins. This means you need to catch at chairlift or walk back up to the booth after your last run.
Not for the faint hearted as the gondola is extremely steep, but well worth it. Views out of this world, and the luge ride is heaps of fun. The buffet dinner was unreal, everything from Asian soup, curries salads, fresh prawns green mussels, grilled meats, such as steak, venison, salmon. Carvery roast beef lamb, Yorkshire pudding. Cheese and crackers cold meats. And a huge dessert section. Highly recommend
Great. We went on the Gondola at around 4pm and stayed for dinner at 6.30. Therefore we saw the view over Queenstown in the daytime and night time. Next time will try the ride on the go cart things. It looked thrilling.
Didn,t think the luge ride was long enough. Rotoura luge much better. View amazing, we actually walk up the talk to the skyline one morning & that track is awesome, with some great seats. You will have to walk it to know what the seats are.
Definitely worth going for the stunning view of the city, lake and surrounding mountains. We took many pictures there and had a nice hot chocolate at the bar. The place is very touristic, complete with restaurant and gift shop. They take a picture of you when you get in the cable car and try to sell it when you return (NZD 17 for just the picture or NZD 39 for the picture in a fancy cover). On the minus side: I found the gondola price (NZD 39 per adult) quite expensive compared to the ones we have in Japan.
