Dom Luís I Bridge

When completed in 1886, the Dom Luís I Bridge had the world’s longest iron arch that today stretches across the Douro River like a cobalt-blue rainbow. From the Ribeiro neighborhood, walk across the lower deck to take in the river. At Gaia, you can head to the upper deck on a cable car and walk back across at a height of almost 200 feet.

We walked to the right of the bridge on Ribeira side and took Funicular to the top for euros 2.50 PP. From there, we walked down the hill to our right and took a left, walking right onto the bridge....nice for picture taking. At the end is a big park where people sit at sunset for a gorgeous view.

Definately worth a visit, just cause. Historical.

Definately worth a visit, just cause. Historical. Impressive. Central. Main bridge; iconic. We walked across it several times and enjoyed our boat cruise going under it and seeing the other few bridges too.

Best views & a Porto highlight - a must do.

Best views & a Porto highlight - a must do. Top & bottom levels are pedestrian friendly. A furnicular takes you up to the top level from just opposite the Ribeira side near the bridge entrance. Star attraction!

    Amazing bridge.

Amazing bridge. Walk over to Villa Nova de Gaia on the top level, then take the tram down to the riverfront. The views are amazing. On the way back, walk the lower deck to see a different angle of the view. Very beautiful.
