Basilica Cistern
This cavernous space is the largest remaining Byzantine cistern in Istanbul. Constructed in the 6th century, it originally provided water filtration for the Great Palace of Constantinople, and continued to supply the Topkapi Palace from 1453 until the modern day. Opened to the public in 1987, you can now explore its atmospheric walkways and marvel at the intricacy of its decorative, water-worn columns.

The Basilica Cistern in Istanbul is indeed a remarkable historical site, and it has been used for cultural and artistic events like Night Shift (cultural performances, concerts, art exhibitions or other creative activities). I recommend checking the official website of the Basilica Cistern

An amazing example of how the re-use of old structure has aa long, long history. If you have small children, remember that CO2 is heavier than air, and they might need to be carried for some of the way if they feel a little dizzy.

its a must visit place as while looking at it one wonders the engineering and architect of that time and the kind of efforts which were made to create a nearly hidden, massive cistern. the ticket price of of 350 lira is a bit steep but since Sultanamet ( Blue Mosque) and Hagia Sofia( now when its a mosque) have no tickets, its OK. all are close by and could be visited in all in 2-3 hrs..

It is nothing quite as bright as seen in pictures.
It is nothing quite as bright as seen in pictures. It would have been of great significance in the life of Istanbul's then population that used its waters and of course the engineering skills that went into building it, but I feel there are a lot of other things one can spend time marvelling at in Istanbul rather than spend extra to see the basilica cistern. It wasn't even covered under the Turkey Museum Pass that we had, which gave access to virtually every place we wanted to go all over the country.

The Basilica Cistern, is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Another architectural masterpiece of Ancient Greek architecture, Byzantine architecture. One of my most favorite places in Istanbul. Must visit a place.

thank you for all staffs in this remarkable hotel because the service is outstanding, and the breakfast is beyond expectations! especially to Mr. Musa, who gave me early check in and a birthday cake in the room! He explained everything to explore Istanbul.
This hotel is in front of Sultan Ahmet Tram Station and close to the main destination of Istanbul (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Hippodrome etc.) and also restaurants. ATMs are in the same building,
Excellent!! The best hotel someone could choose for a short(or longer of course) stay in Istanbul! Amazing location(few steps away from the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern). As for the room, we got a free update, that is a room with view(hayat) on Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, that was marvellous! Friendly staff, very good breakfast, very convenient transport service to the airport! Thank you very much! Best of the best! Teşekkür ederim!
Location is very good - T1 tram is close, Grand Bazzar, Hagia Sophia, Blue mosque, Basilica cistern,.. all reachable very easy by foot. Also, many stores and shops nearby.
We stayed on the second floor room. Renovated room in an area that is only a 10-15 mins distance from the major sights (Hagia-Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern etc). Clean and very comfortable, quiet away from traffic noises or any other disturbances. You have to walk for about 10 mins in order to reach public transport (T1 tram line) but from there on there is easy connection with all other transports/major areas.
The location is one of the best features of this hotel. It is far enough from the crowds of tourists to enable some sort of privacy, plus there're lower prices at restaurants nerby than on the bigger streets. At the same time it is located within a walking distance from th main tourist attractions such as Hagye Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Grand and Egyptian Bazaars, Gulhane Park and Basilica Cistern. The staff were very friendly and exceptionally helpful. The room was being cleaned every day.
The hotel is a 5–7-minute walk from Sultanahmet Square and the tramway stop. Many important sites, like the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sofia Mosque, the Basilica Cistern, and Topkapi Place, are within walking distance. Other sites are easily reachable by tram T1. The hotel personnel are very friendly. The room was clean and freshly renovated. The shower cabin was convenient with a good cold/hot water supply. The room facilities included a TV, a safe, and a fridge.
Great location near to the Grand Bazaar & Sulemaniye Mosque Complex... with the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Basilica Cistern, Hippodrome & Topkapi Palace within a 10 minute walk away. The hotel was clean with all essential amenities. Really comfortable and a nice temperature. The staff and service were exceptional. Faultless and brilliant value for money.
Perfect location, helpful staff great view from the attic for breakfast. The location is perfect, 5 min walk to Aya Sofia, Topkapi Palace and Basilica Cistern walking distance to Galata Bridge, under the hotel there is also a tram stop, good for public transportation
The hotel has a great location, one can walk to the main attractions being the furthest one 15 minutes away. By foot we went to the Spice Bazar, the Grand Bazar, Agia Sophia, Topcapi Palace and the Basilica Cistern.
Breakfast was good and the staff attentive and ready to help. Special thanks to Gizen and Omer Sanet, at the reception, who really help me.
This hotel is located above the Basilica Cistern, its location is very perfect, Hagia Sophia is 200 meters, Topkapi Palace is 300 meters, Sultanahmet Mosque is 350 meters and the Grand Bazaar is only 600 meters away.Staff is friendly, There is a restaurant but the employees are not hotel workers. A boutique hotel with a warm family atmosphere. You should not expect much for breakfast. It is the hotel with the best price and the best level in the region. but breakfast is enough
