Hagia Sophia

In 537 AD, Hagia Sophia began life as a church, before becoming an Ottoman mosque in 1453. The largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years, this majestic building is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Today, you can go inside and explore both the colossal structure as well as its museum.

This was the most incredible part of Istanbul.

This was the most incredible part of Istanbul. Again ensure proper attire or you have to pay for covering. The interplay of Christianity and the Muslim faith, and neither chose to desicrate the other. Just be aware that you will only be able to visit the upper section unless you're a practising muslim.

Its a pity that such an UNESCO monument was turned into a Muslim Cami. And it is discrimination that all non Muslims cannot visit the whole area. As a Greek and orthodox I felt very sorry of the destructions of all the inside ( almost). This should be a museum open for all ,independent on their beliefs. Civilization is not looking into beliefs. Should be respected within centuries.

    Oh, what a delight.

Oh, what a delight. I’m an open minded Christian so I appreciate such a wonderful and special place is still in place. You have to admitted if it wasn’t the Muslims it (probably) shared the fate of Acropolis. Is a wonder it does not crumble during times. Really. I was not able to take two straight pictures in a row, such a marvel of architecture is it, patch after patch. Is not the Pantheon, is not Basilica di San Pietro, but is still there. I also have to appreciate they respect the history and prior faith and do not cover part of the old (Christinas) paintings.

The history is stunning and the main room is beautiful as well as the mosaics. However, I was underwhelmed considering they now charge to go in and you cannot go on the main floor (a result of it being turned into a mosque). Also the carpet choice doesn't help with the overall site. I think the other mosques were better. Also, there are LONG queues to buy a ticket and then queues to go in. I would recommend going to the Hagia Sophia experience museum (across the Obelisk) and buy tickets there.

Insanely long lines deterred us, although you can take great shot elsewhere. Whether you are a man or woman, you need to cover up. Ladies with shawl, long sleeves, and down to ankles. Men with pants and at least a t-shirt (no tank tops). Otherwise, no entry.

Once the seat of Christianity under Constantine the Great where Istanbul's original name came from (Constantinople) Still a very spiritual place where Christianity and Islam combine Worth a visit but go early many, many want to go. Take your time and view the murials on the upper floor

The location of this hotel is the best part of the stay. It is just a 2–3 minute walk from the famous Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, and about a 10-minute walk from the Grand Bazaar. There are many restaurants nearby, and the environment around the hotel is lively. The staff were very friendly and arranged all our activities, tours, and taxis. Breakfast was wonderful, and the rooftop restaurant offers a breathtaking view of the entire city. I would definitely plan to book this hotel again if I travel to Istanbul.

A very well located hotel in a busy environment. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were recommended to have breakfast at a bakery just opposite the hotel -- excellent price-quality relationship, definitely recommendable. From the hotel, you can walk in a couple of minutes to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque or a Tram Station that brings you everywhere.

We stayed in the Standard Suite and it was an excellent experience. The room was exactly like the pictures – very neat, clean, modern, and well-renovated. Everything we needed was provided and well managed. The hotel is also in a perfect location, just a short walk from all the main attractions in Sultanahmet Old Town (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, etc.). Overall, a comfortable and hassle-free stay – highly recommended for anyone visiting Istanbul.

The hotel was in the center of the city with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia within walking distances so it was nice to come and go to our hotel as many times during the day especially to avoid the strong sun. The hotel was cute and quaint with shared bathrooms. Definitely recommend for backpackers or solo travelers looking for a budget place to stay in the heart of the city with the tram right across the street. The owner was nice and very helpful, no hassle and created a stress free environment.

The best hotel in the Sultanahmet area. Everything was superlative, from the hotel's location near Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, to the cleanliness of the room, amenities, modern elevator and last but not least the friendliness of the staff (Met, Ahmet, Recep, the breakfast guys and the cleaning ladies). I will gladly return every time I come to Istanbul. Thank You Hotel is the perfect place for a comfortable and carefree stay in the heart of the famous Sultanahmet.

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at this hotel! The cleanliness was exceptional, and the location is simply perfect for tourists. It's just steps away from iconic landmarks like the Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar, with the tram only a few meters away, making it incredibly convenient to explore the city. The staff were wonderful, incredibly helpful, and went above and beyond to address my concerns. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Istanbul and can’t wait to return!
