This San Francisco hotel is located just a 5-minute walk from Lombard Street, the "Crookedest Street in the World", and less than a mile from Fisherman’s Wharf. I’ve stayed here four or five times earlier. Our favorite hotel when here

The audio tour is great! Everyone can enjoy this tour at his own pace. Also there are Park Rangers that will tell you more amazing stories about different aspects of the island and it's buildings.
Everyone should visit at least once. The history is interesting and the self guided audio tour lets you go at your own pace. Be prepared for a windy and chilly ferry ride there and back but the scenery is breathtaking
I was actually taken there by my friend, as I hadn't planned to go there and if I has missed this, I would have regret this until the rest of my life! I was very surprised, how great Alcatraz - place and its' history is. Not only the travel there is fast and pleasurable, but being there and listening to the audio guide with recorded voices of prisoners and guards, while doing a tour inside the Alcatraz prison is unforgettable experience! Highly recommended!
SIt on the top left part of the Ferry Boat on the way to Alcatraz for the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge (if not foggy) and the Island as you approach; bring a jacket/sweatshirt...you'll need it.
Tour kept my youngest son aged 7 entertained. We were fortunate enough to visit on a day when one of the few survivors from Alcatraz was there. Really interesting stories and delightful to meet him. Trip needs to be booked weeks in advance. It sells out very fast
Fascinating, but yet sad for the past inmates- a horrible living situation. Very important to see the film explaining the history of Alcatraz & a MUST to do the audio tour. I felt like I was invading the seagull’s nesting place on The Rock bc that’s where they live and everything was covered in seagull dodo! It smelled like garbage everywhere, but I didn’t care- I loved the beautiful vistas of the water and the city and I found the seagulls quite amusing! The ferry ride was virtually boring unless you’re ride the top ( also very very cold !)which is highly competitive- get in line first, or you won’t get a seat at the top! I was really looking forward to a boat ride, but found the subject matter much more fascinating!
Hotel staff were very accommodating and nice. Asked for several extra items and received them. Nice and spacious for a family of four. The kitchen was great and came with a lot of items. I was even able to make cinnamon rolls one morning in the microwave/convection oven. The view form the roof top was very nice too. You can see Alcatraz, both bridges and the Wharf. Super safe and close to a lot of attractions.
Great apartment (not just a hotel room) with two levels and a lot of room, perfect for traveling and/or entertaining with fully stocked kitchen (not food but equipment etc) for cooking and entertaining. Fabulous view to Bay including Alcatraz. Great selection of restaurants in Ghirardelli square (but note, these are not open for breakfast).
The location was amazing - just down the street from a good bike rental place; walking distance of the pier, fisherman's wharf, Ghirardelli square, and the Alcatraz ferry launch; it's also close to various yummy restaurants and fun bars.
Great location - just minutes walk from Fishermans Wharf, Pier 39, Alcatraz tour. Parking is all fenced in and secure (gate closes at night, access only via front desk entrance) - felt that parked car was well secured.
I was gone for thr morning too early- Alcatraz swim Walking distance to aquatic park and Hyde st pier/harbor. Needed a late check out to shower up, which they kindly enabled.
We liked where the hotel was located and from our room we could see Alcatraz all the time. It was right in between the other 2 buildings so it was perfect day and night.
Great location. Lots of places to eat within walking distance. Short car ride to Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz tours/Pier 39/Fisherman Wharf
Location! This is probably the one good reason to book this hotel. Walking distance to the Pier 39, ferry to Alcatraz and other touristic locations
Number 1 attraction is Alcatraz and you can't come here without visiting. Amazing experience. However this was probably surpassed by cycling over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and taking the ferry back. You will get amazing photos of the bridge doing it this way. World Series Baseball was on during our trip to California which San Francisco were in and eventually won which added an extra buzz to the city. In our time in San Francisco the Giants were in Kansas but the whole city was alive with Giants talk. Buy a MUNI visitor passport. At the start of the day you'll want to walk everywhere but those hills take their toll and you'll be glad you can jump on any bus, streetcar or cable car later in the day
For Alcatraz book a few weeks ahead, especially on the weekends
Try the Big Bus an excellent way to see this large and varied city. Try later in the year the weather is good and the summer travellers will have gone home. A trip to Alcatraz island is worth the time but book before you arrive to avoid disappointment. If the crowds overwhelm you head for the Haight or the Golden Gate park where there is space for all.
Listen to the history of Alcatraz first hand from convicts and guards via the headphones while exploring the cells. The voices and background sounds bring everything to life.
Alcatraz is the most prominent tourist thing to do but if you don't want to spend an afternoon there, or tickets are sold out (get them in advance btw), just waking along the pier there is loads to see. If you only have a few days there, a good way to see the city is the bus tours.
S F is quite a beautiful attraction to visit, we couldn't avoid the crowds. in fact there were so many crowds we missed visiting alcatraz it was booked out for days in advance and we missed out.
