    The views are truly Heavenly.

The views are truly Heavenly. It is some of the best tree skiing in the world. But it is a hard mountain to get to know. You can easily spend your whole day schlepping from one place to the next. It can get crowded and in the early season they will be understaffed and occasionally incompetent. Make a plan and try to stick to it.

Our kids had trouble finding the green slopes and it was one of their first times. They asked people and everyone was very friendly but they ended up jumping on a blue course. Our kids are 17 so not unable to find directions typically

This resort only makes sense if you have a season pass and you ski on it more than 6-7 days a year. The views are fantastic. Once you figure out how to get around, a tour of the mountain moves along well and going from California to Nevada and back while exploring en route and doing most runs in each area will take you most of a day. I don't know how a family could prudently visit this place on day passes. It is expensive. Also, the price, one might surmise, would be commensurate with quality--Not. They make no effort with food. It's burgers and pizza--nothing special, all overpriced. Avoid weekends and holidays (it gets crowded), pack snacks, and be aware that Sky lift (needed to get from California to Nevada) closes in high wind. One positive-- the local area has lodging that is much more affordable than than that available at U.S. resorts of comparable size. Restaurants are mediocre and way overpriced; however, plenty of quality food to be had if you have the option of cooking. 45 min from South Lake to Kirkwood, about an hour to North Star. If you get the pass and can hit all three resorts during the week, you could have a great trip. Note that Sierra at Tahoe (not on pass) is a half hour away and has great tree skiing in powder conditions.

This is a very nice hotel, but almost ZERO amenities due to Covid and the in room hot tub looked SO GREAT but NOT WORKING as they do maintenance outside of the ski season. The room was FABULOUS and saw a Grizzly bear checking out the dumpsters outback from the room window, very cool (especially from an upper floor safely! LOL). So 5 star hotel great bargain in Summer and short drive to the Lake, up on a small hill back of town.
