I loved the bumper cars! Haven't done that in decades. There's a train tour that stops at the boardwalk. The Santa Clara river is nearby which has a sunny walkway next to it. I was able to walk from my motel to the Boardwalk. Stopped for lunch at a family-owned Mexican restaurant. Homey and affordable.
Unfortunately the rides were closed but the restaurants were open across on the wharf. It was nice that you could sit inside and outside. Outside they had the tiki heaters going and it made it have a nice warm atmosphere while eating.
Love Santa Cruz and San Jose area. Have done all the wonderful touristy things in the past. Beautiful scenery fun all around. This trip was just college hunting for my grandson. He finally narrowed to University of Washington or UC Santa Cruz , he decided on Santa Cruz.
It's a ton of fun but be ready to spend a large amount of money. It's sad because when I was a kid it was very reasonable, but now it's quite pricey. Be prepared to spend about $10.00 for just about any drink or food item. I suggest a picnic on the beach, then heading to the boardwalk for some rides, which are pricey as well.
We went both Friday and Saturday. Friday parking $10 for the day, $15 on Saturdays. A lot more traffic on Saturdays but also all the attractions were open, a portion of the park was closed off on Friday. Foods are over priced and not great, I suggest eating elsewhere. The beach was the best part for us! If you plan on hanging out the beach we recommend bringing a cooler with lots of drinks and snacks to save you from making trips! Stop at the bathrooms before heading towards the water it is a bit of a walk to the boardwalk.
On the wharf go to GILDAS resturaunt for all your meals. Look online for their daily specials. Food great and big portions and great prices. Tuesday special was prime rib for $18.00 Large prime rib very little fat and all meals came with clam chowder soup and bread Tried a lot of places to eat but after two days of so so food high prices decided to eat all meals at GILDAS
