Markets in Vietnam are an experience unto themselves. This is a great little market with a LOT of stuff. People will try hustle you into buying stuff and you can haggle, within reason. If you're being unreasonable they'll say so, and if they're being unreasonable you can simply walk away and it seems that everyone agrees that it's no hard feelings. A great place to get your touristy souvenirs.
The prices were fixed and reasonable and products sold are good quality. There are varied products sold so everything is available clothes, souvenir etc. the place is clean and the people are helpful and accepts dollars as payment but exchange rate is lower than the currency exchange market.
May only be of interest if you are from the West. If you are from South East Asia (SEA), its nothing that you do not have back home. Be prepared to be charged twice as much for most of your purchases. If you do not enjoy bargaining, it's a place you may want to skip. All branded products sold here are fakes.
Around the inner perimeter of the market are the Fixed Price Government run stalls. Same stuff, much cheaper but no haggling. I bought my t-shirts there and the lady helped me size them for my wife and six kids from photos and guess work. The conical Nong La hats they want VND100,000 for (after haggling) in the main area are VND 50,000, just to give one example. If nothing else, walk the fixed price stalls first and note the prices; then go and haggle.
Very rude people. Will not recommend to anyone. They will rip you off cause your foreign. Whatever the price is that you see its not true. Everything we bought whatever they said like 50k then when you walk away they change it to 25k! If you still dont but they will get aggressive if you walk away they will say bad things.you can buy cheap things if you know how to haggle.
Many typical souvenir stalls. However, at night there will be quite some apparel stalls or food stalls outside the market. Lights will be on at night during weekends. However, the front door is facing large Metro construction sites right now so must be very careful when taking photos.
We loved our stay here! We stayed here twice (before and after Mui Ne). The living room was huge and beautiful, and we had beautiful balcony views from the apartment. The rooms were clean and they had everything you need. We loved the location, right in the heart of Bui Vien and Ben Thanh market. The staff was friendly and helpful. They always checked in to make sure we had a great stay and were always free to answer our questions. Overall would recommend for an affordable spot in a great location!
This is one of the highlights of my trip to VietNam. The most important to me is the location of the apartment and this place is so perfect. I spend only 5 mins to go to the Ben Thanh market and Bui Vien walking street. In addition, the host is so friendly and ready to help me whenever I need. The room is very clean, beautilful, they have almost everything like my house. Finally, I also loved with the swimming pool with the beautiful view from the top of Ho CHi MInh city.
The staff at The Odys Boutique were friendly and accommodating. I was very impressed with the service provided and also enjoyed dining at the restaurant on the 10th floor that had an open patio. Hotel is centrally located so it was easy to walk to different top attractions including the Ben Thanh Market and the Bitexco Financial Tower that has the SkyDeck where you can get a panoramic view of Ho Chi Minh City.
The hotel is located right at the city center and very near popular attractions (e.g. Ben Thanh Market, Saigon Zoo, Ho Chi Minh Museum, etc.). They even have a room (with lock) for guests' luggage. The staff was nice and very helpful.
Quite near the Ben Thanh market, guests can free for shopping and walking . Good hotel with the beautiful decoration. All the hotel's room with good air - con and strong wifi.
The staff was very good and hotel were clean. Unfortunately I had been stay during covid and Ben Thanh market and shop around were close
If you decide to go to the Ben Thanh market, be prepared to have you bargaining hat on. Everyone is friendly but there's a lot of grabbing and there is no air conditioning so it can be a bit overwhelming. Be comfortable with the currency conversion too so you can definitely grab some real bargains on souvenirs to take home; especially things like coffee and decorative lanterns and furniture. Opposite the Ben Thanh market and opposite the HCMC Fine Arts Museum is a brilliant street to buy antiques.
Great choice at Ben Thanh market and higher end arts and crafts stores.
Eat where the locals eat. Get out of District 1. If you want to stay within District 1, check out restaurants behind Ben Thanh Market that display their menu with prices in front of their restaurants.
