Situated 23 km from Kumanoshi Kiwakozan Museum in Shingu, Koguchi Village by WhyKumano features accommodation with air conditioning and free WiFi. A buffet breakfast is available at the lodge. Lovely, modern, wooden building that was a perfect respite in Koguchi. Our host also made an amazing Japanese traditional steamed meal, and a real spread for breakfast. Shared bathroom was surprisingly not an issue in any way. No in terms of waiting, nor in terms of hygiene. Though I suppose that depends on fellow guests as well, as realistically the host can't be cleaning up immediately after every guest, so we were lucky. We didn't use it but there is a bath as well.

The hosts are the warmest people around. They made sure I was comfortable and the meditations in the morning are quite amazing too. Highly recommend this stay and I definitely plan to come back! Thank you so much for opening up your home to me, this made my Koyasan visit so memorable.

The nicest house with the nicest owner with the worlds best homemade homegrown blueberry jam. Thank you for letting us stay here! Best place to recover after the kumano kodo, wish it could’ve been longer

Mountain Home Lodge in Deer Park is situated in the Nara Park district of Nara, 3.3 km from Nara Station and 20 km from Iwafune Shrine. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the property. Amazing! Great to have the deer at your window :) We received good information from the host before we arrived and after check out they kept our luggage and then ordered us a taxi to the train station when we picked our bags up. The room also had coffee, tea, creamer and more basic things so we did not have to bring it.

Offering mountain views, kakayama hutte in Muraoka offers accommodation, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, a garden and a terrace. Amazing stay! We had the whole place to ourselves, and the village is incredibly peaceful—perfect for a relaxing getaway. The common areas are great and easy to use, adding to the comfort. Excellent value for the price. Highly recommended!

Taraichitei, a property with a garden, is located in Takashima, 28 km from Kehi Jingu Shrine, 34 km from Omimaiko Beach, as well as 40 km from Obama Station. It is an old style house, so as long as you aren't expecting Western/modern comforts, it's fantastic! My daughter called it the Totoro house. You will sleep on Japanese futons that you lay out on the tatami mats - if you've never slept on a futon it might feel uncomfortable/hard compared to Western beds. You will eat sitting on the tatami mats, but there are a couple of small Western chairs if sitting on the floor is difficut. The bathroom is Japanese style with the toilet in one section, the sink/vanity in a second section and the shower with separate furo (deep bathtub for soaking after washing in the shower) in the third section. It was not the most modern but all clean and more spacious than the Western hotel bathrooms we had other parts of Japan! There is a TV, wifi worked great and a bluetooth speaker to play music. There aren't a lot of "tourist" attractions nearby but it you want serenity this hits the spot - a few steps away has you walking among farming fields and the house is also close to the forest with a little stream running along side the road making for a peaceful but easy walk up the mountain. The gohan (rice) cooked in the old style stove was the best we ate our entire trip! Wish we had bought some of the local rice. It can get a little smoky when dinner is being cooked but my mild asthma was fine. The host, Hiro, is amazing, super accomodating and friendly, he introduced us to his shiba inu (dog) and his duck, and even though we didn't ask ahead, he prepped for us to make tofu - this experience was an extra fee but totally worth it! During the winter you can also request mochitsuki (pounding rice into mochi) and summer/fall you can make noodles (can't remember if he said soba, ramen or udon). Hiro's English is limited, but he's so engaging, we asked him to eat dinner with us and my daughter loved that...he has such good energy!

Situated in Hashimoto, Yadori Onsen Iyashinoyu features free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a shared lounge, a terrace and a restaurant. The Onsen! It had private hours for inn guests. I also appreciated the clean, modern cabin. Yusuke and the whole staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, even offering a shuttle to and from Koyasan twice per day. Beautiful valley. there is a bridge that allows you to get down to the rivers edge to enjoy the water.

Featuring mountain views, Tamayura no Sato in Kimino features accommodation, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, a garden, a terrace and a restaurant. This was a nice place away from the city. They have bbqs where you can grill outside of your cabin. Comfortable cabins close to some cool stuff to see. Friendly staff.

Situated 3.3 km from Shionomisaki Shrine, Fukurou features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. I really enjoyed the private access Onsen, available to sign up once a day. Perfect after biking around Kushimoto all day—I rented one of their electric assist bikes which made going up and down the local hills easier. Complete with helmet and cell phone holder. The room was very spacious and comfortable.
