Situated in Matsuyama, 500 metres from Joshin-ji Temple, Kowakuen Haruka offers accommodation with an open-air bath, private parking and a garden. Staff was helpful in guiding us to car park and bringing up luggage to the room. They are also conversant in English so communication was easy. Overall everyone was friendly. Location is best and the room was comfortable.

Featuring a shared lounge, restaurant and views of garden, NIPPONIA HOTEL Ozu Castle Town is set in Ōzu, 300 metres from Garyu Sanso Villa. Nipponia Hotel Ozu developed an interesting strategy. VMG, the parent company, purchased, repaired, updated & renovated existing historic properties in Ozu, which is a small town in Ehime prefecture. Thus the lobby, rooms/villas, lounge & dining venues are scattered throughout the castle town section of Ozu. Our unit was the home of a silk merchant. VMG kept both the upstairs living area separate from the entry & bathroom. A nice touch was using Hinoki wood in the construction of the furo. There is wifi but no television or any unnecessary electronics, we missed none of it... The meals were both Kaiseki but the breakfast had a fusion feel to the dishes. We didn't use the lounge, but appreciated its presence. The surrounding areas involve narrow original streets & is very walkable. I constantly thought of Kurashiki but on a smaller more initimate scale. Close-by is a riverside walk that leads to a bridge over the Hijikawa river with an unobstructed view of Ozu castle. The morning we left I walked to the Ozu Shrine & marvelled in the Fall colors & fog in the valleys, Truly a photographic moment. I enjoyed the ambiance of the town, the effort by VMG to realistically retain the flavor of Meiji-Taisho life, while providing an income source to the local community.

Located in Tobe, 600 metres from Tobe Pottery Museum, 時地人 - JIJIJIN Matsuyama provides accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. Everything, it wasn’t just a hotel, it was an experience! The property, views, rooms were amazing. The staff and food were incredible!

Comprising an open-air bath and a garden, Kominka Mitsuhama Ryokan is a recently renovated accommodation in Matsuyama located close to Minatomishimadaimyo Shrine. The host was so friendly and took time to show us everything, give us information and have us some complimentary gifts and amenities. The entire place was so unique.

Located in Matsuyama, 400 metres from Joshin-ji Temple, Dogo Kan offers accommodation with a sauna, a hot spring bath and a public bath. We had stayed here eleven years ago & thought then that this was an excellent onsen. We returned here in part to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Dogo Kan improved their facilities even more to our liking. The room was very spacious & the beds comfortable. The furo were relaxing, the kaiseki dinner & breakfast were delicious and checking-in/out was without effort. I also liked that our fellow guests were respectful & well-behaved. We've stayed at other onsens, where guests (foreign) needed to reminded about speaking too loud in the furo.

Featuring mountain views, Okudogo Ichiyunomori provides accommodation with an open-air bath, a garden and a bar, around 5.6 km from Joshin-ji Temple. The hotspring facilities are all amazing. Especially, the private hotspring was quite comfortable and it was nice that they have several different options for it. Also, they have wide range of yukata which we can choose without paying any extra fee.
