The Central Motel & Lodge is just 5 minutes’ drive from the base of Mt Ruapehu, which boasts the Turoa Ski Resort and the Tongariro National Park. Ohakune Railway Station is 3 km away. 10/10 for absolutely everything! First things first, Denis, our host was absolutely fantastic and accommodating for us to check in late so we can enjoy the lovely weather. He also gave us really good trail recommendations since our plans to do the Crossing have been cancelled. The room itself was big, clean, comfortable with a huge bed and new facilities in the bathroom and kitchen. The shower was a delight! And to top everything, there is a hot tub to enjoy after a long day of hiking. Best place in NZ so far.

The location was incredibly convenient, the view was beautiful, and the staff were professional, willing to help, and very friendly. The rooms were a good size with all necessary amenities, and the pool provided a welcome cool down after a hot day.
